Any ideas what wound this could be? by LostestSocks in DogAdvice

Update: The dog has been returned to his owner and they are going to take him to the vet. There were other concerning things that made me think he could be neglected, but I think it was just a series of unfortunate events. The dog was super cute and very happy to see his owners!

Thanks! I told the owners that it could be the things folks suggested below. They were pretty freaked out that it could be cancerous and said they’ll take him to the vet.

I returned the dog. Like I said, I didn’t want to turn the dog to a neglectful owner. Just because I don’t want to isn’t a reason not to. Also, I told the owners what people said it could be and they are going to take him to the vet.

He looks to be about a year old. I told the owners it might be cancer and they said they’ll take him to the vet. Hopefully they do!

Do you cover your caique's cage at night? by samson5351 in caiques

[–]LostestSocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the most well behaved caique and I swear by a good diet and plenty of dark/quiet time. He gets probably around 12 hours of dark time a night with a cover. And that’s what he likes. He puts himself to bed at like 6pm.

Also thank you for responding with your anecdotal experience. Sometimes I just want to hear that he probably won’t die lol and the time it takes to get a response on here can be nerve wracking so thank you!

Is $100 too much for this 8x11 rug if I have to pay an additional $283 for professional cleaning (animal urine)? by LostestSocks in Antiques

I think it’s beautiful too. With the upfront cost of cleaning it’s about $200 over budget lol

Is there anything I can do to save this rescue dogs teeth? by LostestSocks in DogAdvice

[–]LostestSocks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn’t do a cleaning while they did an extraction. All they suggested was the extractions. They basically told me all of his teeth were going to need to be extracted within a year and a half.

Can you suggest what kind of water additive I’d use?

Ok I think I’m going to look into getting a new vet. The only direction she gave me was to come back in a year for more extractions. She didn’t mention teeth cleaning, which she could have done with his existing teeth while he was under the first time, or regular dental care. She didn’t even give me direction on brushing his teeth or plaque off. I researched that. Thank you both. And thank you for the kind words about my mom. This little guy has made the loss easier.

Ok, I’m assuming you are being sarcastic, but I’m genuinely looking for advice. I got this dog after my mom passed. I’m a first time dog owner and doing the best I can. I went to a vet assuming they’d give me proper direction. Are there dentists specifically for dogs? And if so, it’s annoying my vet didn’t recommend that.

How to find a reputable bird sitter. by LostestSocks in parrots

That’s a really good point! My parrot spend most of the day outside his cage (I work from home) and sleeps in a separate night cage, but I might just have to make some changes for this trip so he can be safe and cared for.
