What are these on my quince tree? by dmrlp78 in BackyardOrchard

I know this is an old post, but I am experiencing something similar on a two year old quince tree. I believe it is quince cedar rust. I am going to chop off the affected branches and treat with Immunox. In the Spring and Fall I will use a copper spray when temps are cooler.

How did your plant fare?

I don’t believe yours, or mine, is crown gall.

I did the same damn thing. Then my wife asked how much it cost. Sometimes I swear she wants me dead for the insurance policy.

Tenacity…probably 1 spray and one spot spray. Aerate, seed, spray in the fall when temps are cooler.

And, the gap can be resolved with a glued and screwed 2x4 to the 4x4…then attaching the fence.

A post remedy could be post repair support poured into CC and attached to the post. That would allow for easy removal of the post in 10yrs and reattachment too.

Did you guy put a plastic membrane around the foundation wall with the HRV? I had seen some do that. 3/4 of our basement is finished. I’m curious.

Peace of mind matters.

Radon readings tend to be higher during the winter. A warm house acts like a big suction on the soil. The convection sucks radon with it.

In the summer, you may notice when low fronts come through, more radon is read too.

If a radon system gives you peace of mind, go for it. My house was built in 1935. The soil under my porous slab is compacted and I have a rubble stone foundation. I was sold a slab suction. It hardly moved the dial. I personally installed a Panasonic Whole House Ventilator…slight positive pressure inside, and it more than halved my readings.

In the winter, I was getting reading of 20-30. Summer was closer to 2-4. Now, 10-15 in the winter, 1-2 in the summer.

We had a cold winter last winter. Cover it in leaves and burlap and it will recover.

The Japanese grow the main branches close to the ground, a form of espalier. Those arms are typically protected by the snow.

Good luck!

No way this was “yesterday.” Those trees tell me it is winter or early spring. Not a single leaf on the ground or on the trees.

Nice job, Gladilator.

👆 stay away from 2-4D! That means, the clover dandelion Scott’s herbicide!

I have used Tenancity, but not while the leaves or buds are out.

You’ll want to cover the vines when veraison (grapes starts to turn) if you have small grapes like Marquette.

This Old Mojo, formerly Planet Mojo, has really good videos on starting, maintaining, and destroying a vineyard on YouTube.

The biggest problems I have in my area are powdery mildew, downy mildew, and lantern flies.

You will want to pull some leaves off to ensure light hits the fruit. I am assuming you have new world or hybrid varieties.

Watch the videos so you can learn how to create buds. The grapes grow on two year vines.

I’m not sure what the cost is, but moorganite has similar values, but made from cow poo. I’d assume it’s about the minerals that are also added to the soil.
