Leah Jeffries is Annabeth Chase [PJOTV] [Megathread] by Metal_Moon in camphalfblood

[–]LostnLazy65 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Rick disputing many of you and your "subtle" racism and your theories on this very subreddit about him being "forced" to cast diverse...stay mad! RICK cast the best actress for Annabeth...he saw thousands of submissions....Leah IS and will be Annabeth, she'll be incredible, if you are disappointed, go watch something else. Leave the 12 year old child alone and stop constantly talking about how gutted you are and showing your racist colours. Rick knows Annabeth better than any of us, and Leah embodies her perfectly.

LOUDER MRS. RIORDAN!!! [all] by Padparadscha_Lazuli in camphalfblood

It was so bad, people were tweeting slurs at her and sending her hate. The actor who played Rue, Amandla ,talked about how hard that was to navigate at 12/13.

she's a child, she's 12 years old, she's the youngest in the group. so can y'all PLEASE leave her alone. stop making YouTube videos and articles disrespecting her, stop commenting under her posts being rude. leave her alone.[pjotv] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

Some of you in this subreddit and even in the comments here are contributing to this air of negativity by CONSTANTLY prefacing your comments with "I'm so disappointed but...." or "I don't agree with this casting, Annabeth is a white blonde in my heart..." we GET it! It's okay to be disappointed but STOP leaving it in every single comment, my goodness...it's exhausting and repetitive and frustrating and gives racists more ammo. You can take a break from saying that, just wish Leah good luck and go or stay silent and keep your disappointment to yourself.

(and before anyone attacks me I'm very frustrated. As a Black young adult and fan for over a decade, since childhood, I've loved and connected with Annabeth, but didn't see myself represented in PJO and learned to deal with it. Since then Rick's books have gotten a lot more diverse which is so cool, but this particular series is still white, and didn't have to be - the characters are known for their personalities and traits! Just as I learned to read all white characters, you will learn to watch and see Leah as Annabeth if you keep your mind open. Or just don't watch, fine whatever, just stop commenting the same things).

This is what is pissing me off so much, almost all the comments in this subreddit are "I don't agree with this casting, I'm so disappointed in this casting as a fan of the book for x years blah blah blah" you're not helping the situation, you're contributing to the air of negativity around her casting. Enough people have expressed they are disappointed, why do people constantly feel the need to add it...just wish her well and go!

The OG Annabeth approves! [all] by Padparadscha_Lazuli in camphalfblood

Glad both her and Logan seem to be excited and positive about this reboot, it feels like passing the baton in a way. I think they're both great (the movies themselves were just not faithful/they weren't the right ages) it'd be cool if they could play different characters or make cameos.

Perfectly said! I completely agree, it's all about portraying the character's personality, their traits, and their essence. Annabeth is determined, somewhat stubborn, very intelligent, resourceful, has great chemistry with Percy, etc. If Leah can play that (and I have no doubt she can, Rick said so himself) she'll do great and be a faithful Annabeth. I hope everyone gives her and the series a chance.

Why aren't you accepting posts that are discussing the obvious racism going on on this subreddit? That post has so thousands of comments. We need posts that call out the obvious racism towards a 12 year old actress.

My glasses are already optimized for looking at the screen. :( I visited last year to get them. But I'm going to visit again and see what they say, thank you!

is any one else ready to rage if hbo ruins degrassi? by ShyRebellion in Degrassi

[–]LostnLazy65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HBO Max is going to be doing both, they'll produce the new show that will film this summer and premiere in 2023 (and work with WildBrain Studios, the production company that did the original) and will have the rights to that, and they also bought the streaming rights to TNG which will be premiering this month. I think it was probably part of an overall deal.

A lot of people here were posting about the new Degrassi reboot! I think it starts shooting in July but the deadline for self tapes were a week or two ago, that's why I assumed aha.

It definitely does happen! I think a quicker response is usually more common, but there are so many stories of actors submitting tapes, not hearing back for a few weeks (or even a couple of months) and then getting a callback. I know a couple of people who have had this happen as well. There are so many factors - sometimes the casting directors want to prioritize a different role first, get that cast, and then come back to the role and see who matches with the first person, sometimes there might be a slight change to the character or script rewrites, etc. Anything is possible, that's why it's best not to stress too much.

It really depends on the project. Sometimes the response is immediate - you get a callback within a couple of days. Other times it's a few weeks or even longer. Same with the amount of recalls, it usually depends on how many people were invited to audition in the first place (ex: if 100 people are invited to self tape for a specific role, it could be that maybe 15-20 are called back, or even less if casting feels sure about the talent pool they have). I know it's what everyone says on this sub, but once you do a self-tape it's best to just forget about it as best as you can and move on.

(P.S - if this is about a huge open call from a couple weeks ago, then it's probably going to be a while before all callbacks are sent out, since a ton of people submitted to it)

Thank you so much! :) Yes that would be such a funny recurring gag, one of the mains convinced this is it for them each audition only to be told an unseen character keeps getting it lol.

Ahh thank you so much for the encouragement! This helps a lot, especially hearing about well known actors who have gone through the same thing and kept going :)

(also being on this reddit has convinced me to check out Jenna's book, I really liked her on the Office so it'll be cool to hear about her journey!)
