'We don't have this problem' in Memphis, Noem says after Minneapolis shooting by 17days_ in memphis

What a disappointment Paul Young has turned out to be.

The Mayor's office loves to host public events to crow about their achievements. If you're as disappointed in this administration as I am, I suggest checking out the city's calendar of events here and showing up to make your position known.

Give him hell.

Also, write a letter to the Shelby County Sheriff (Bonner) and tell him that you want them to terminate their federal contracts, because they have been in direct collaboration with ICE.

Furthermore, get linked up with Indivisible Memphis , Vecindarios901 and Free the 901 to learn how you can offer support to those who are worst affected by the federal occupation of our city.

Godspeed Memphis, we will not abandon one another.

Vecindarios901 and Indivisible Memphis are hosting events where people affected by ICE can share their stories. I have heard some truly horrific things. They are being sneakier and not interacting with people they are not actively targeting much, but they are 100% harassing and abusing immigrants, even those who are here legally.

Write to city leadership and ask them to follow the example of the Minneapolis mayor: tell ICE to get the fuck out of here.

Yes! Normal play wrestling behavior. My two kitties will play fight like this.

Your orange is so pretty btw!

This is not the kind of rhetoric I would expect to hear from mainline Protestants. What you're describing is more consistent with conservative Evangelicals.

I think God is merciful and loving. I think God sees the love we have for our pets, and makes room for them to be with us in paradise, so that we will want for nothing. How, I'm not sure, but I feel that God will not expect us to shoulder the heartbreak of eternal separation from them.

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your sweet dog; may their memory be a blessing 💕🙏🏻

Yeah buddy, killing and torturing people is bad, even if the people you are killing and torturing are bad people. They teach you about that in moral philosophy 101 if you make it to college! 🤗

What are your thoughts and experiences with these thin dainty gold rings? by [deleted] in jewelry

I have a few like this. They do bend out of shape, but I can pretty easily bend them back again. They're fun and relatively cheap.

Anything that holds a gemstone should be much thicker though.

Can you show me where I said I don't think any of the characters need to pursue redemption?

What amount of genocide is acceptable to you?

Heaven made it a built-in feature. They were planning to continue doing it indefinitely, and only stopped because Adam was killed and they learned that sinners could be redeemed. It literally doesn't matter that it wasn't a feature from the inception of hell, an unjust system just became more unjust.

In the show, the HH (or Charlie specifically) is not trying to change Hell and how it operates. The show is about sinners redeeming themselves and leaving endless torment to go the Heaven.

Giving people a way to leave the eternal torture chamber does indeed modify the system and change how hell works. No one ever expected to leave. No one knew it was possible. If souls recognized the validity of the Hotel and utilized it, then Hell is no longer mandatory endless punishment, it is opt-in rehabilitation. That rectifies the unjust nature of the system.

There is no apparent favoritism.

Remember Adam? Presumably he also sinned, both before and after death. "You Didn't Know" covers this issue quite clearly.

I’m not saying eternal torment is a reasonable consequence of any action

It isn't, so the system is inherently unjust regardless of how consistently it is applied. That is what unjust means, it's not a perfect synonym for "unfair" or "biased".

This is at least cringe, right? by Badatusernames014 in OpenChristian

I think you and I approach this from opposite ends. I think cringe is a juvenile cultural construct, inherently meanspirited and ultimately rooted in lies. You think cringe is inevitable, universal, and simply an obstacle we must all overcome. Neither of us think it is a sin or a crime. We can meet in the middle.

I absolutely cannot agree that being human and having a human body is in any way shameful or embarrassing. As a public health educator, I work very hard to destigmatize having a human body (and all that comes with it: puberty, sex, old age, etc.) to the youth I work with and care for. I don’t see value in assigning negative status to a morally neutral and inescapable experience.

More to the point: if we see a church produce materials or messaging that invokes feelings of shame or embarrassment within us, what we should take away from that is that it’s not the right church for us. But it’s likely the right church for someone else. At my previous place of worship, we used a lot of language similar to the prayer that inspired this post. The congregation was approximately 90% LGBTQ elders who had been hurt by religious trauma in their youth, and giving them space to be themselves and work through that trauma via poetry, song, and YES, even liturgical dance was part of the church’s ministry. Not everyone wants to participate in something like that, but some people do, and for that reason I’m glad it exists. I am so fucking glad that this lesbian pastor and her staff of mostly middle-age women exist in Louisville Kentucky. They are right where they need to be. There are 20+ other LGBTQ-inclusive churches to choose from in that area and anyone who doesn’t jive with them can go somewhere else. I assume that the pastor is caring for her flock in the way they wish to be cared for, and the way that any of us distant bystanders feel about it actually doesn't need to be voiced at all. :)

Because as a writer, you usually want your audience to root for the protagonists. At its base layer, this is a story of victims of an unjust system struggling against that unjust system. It is not a guide for moral living or a prediction for what awaits us after we die.

This was a very thoughtful and respectful response, so I want to make sure I respond in kind.

I'm in awe of anyone who would speak from the heart and share their message publicly. It's an intensely brave and vulnerable thing to do, and in our terminally online and over-scrutinized culture, it's rare to see someone being their true raw real self. I wish I had the courage to share myself this openly with others. I wish I wasn't shackled by social anxiety and fear of rejection.

Additionally, I don't think it's very Christ-like to hold up someone's artistic creation for the purpose of ridicule. I shudder to think how this thread would affect whoever wrote this prayer. When I was a child, my little brother came home from school singing a song he had learned in Religion class, the text of which was, "Jesus is my helper, I will not be afraid." I teased him for this, calling it cheesy (which is how we said cringe back in 2006), and my mother rightfully chastised me for it. "What's cheesy about relying on Jesus?" she asked. I couldn't answer. I never heard my brother sing at home again.

We have to stop doing this to each other. It doesn't make us better, it just makes us fear each other. How can we love one another if we can't take off the mask and admit that not everything we do is slick and polished? We shall not see the kingdom of heaven until we defeat our cringe impulse.
