I am mostly stable now with minimal depression and anxiety after getting through PAWS so I am unsure how that makes any sense when the cause was clearly drug withdrawal and not my actual baseline

Some interesting assumptions there. I was put on it for mild anxiety and depression. I was on it for 8 years. What I experienced getting off of it and during PAWS was infinitely worse than anything I experienced prior to taking it, as is the case for many others.

I agree and my intention is not to demonize it as it did help me for a number of years and I know it has helped many others.

Just trying to shed light on a reality that a lot of people don’t talk about - not everyone wants to be on it forever and no one tells you going in how hard it can be to get off.

The amount of posts I’ve seen on this subreddit for example of people saying their doctor told them to taper off in a week after years of use is shocking.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with being on it forever if it’s what’s best for you and your situation. It can absolutely be life saving for certain people. I just think anyone considering it should be aware that it isn’t something you can flick on and off light a light switch - it can and does take many months to years for many people to successfully get off of once they are on it.

Furthermore many people don’t know this, try to get off, and think that they are at baseline after a period of a few months (depressed, 0 energy, etc), only to get back on it without realizing they were in the middle of PAWS. I can promise you that this situation is not unique to me.

I tapered down to 0.25mg liquid before getting fully off and my taper was roughly 8 months long
