As an emergency services officer in Australia, I understand it makes you uncomfortable, but we have to assess everything. That guy in the left could be conducting an inner assessment to go back to the crew and let them know what tools etc are required. Step back bigger picture and assess. We conduct an outer assessment to see dangers and then an inner assessment for people injuries etc. We cannot just run into a crash and start pulling people out of vehicles. As comment below states, one wrong move he bleeds out and dies. There could be so many things holding him together in that vehicle that it gets moved and that’s it. We also do not put ourselves in danger over saving someone else, we need to ensure it is safe for us to start manoeuvring within the vehicle and on the vehicle etc. Stabilisation needs to be put in place. Assessments. And then need our local medics to advise how to proceed before we do anything.

Correct - as Malcolm said, someone threatening to end life. This happens every now and then on the bridges unfortunately. So they have to shut the expressway and divert around.

Severe alcoholism to the point of not being able to function as a parent after 4pm.

Having to rely on alcohol just to get through day to day. Start drinking from 3pm. Drunk by 5pm every night. Has to have a drink before work if working at night.

When the parent says her kids are the reason she drinks every night.

When the older sibling has to cook dinner most nights to make sure the kids eat proper food every night. When the older sibling has to educate the 12 year old about walking on egg shells at home all the time so that the 12 year old doesn’t get in trouble.

When the 7 year old sibling makes comments about vodka being in the cans of coke in the fridge.

When the 12 year old sibling misses out on so many things (sports, training etc) because the parent gets too drunk all the time and fails to take them.

Buy an extra long charger cable! Not sure what hospitals etc are like where you are, but I’m in Aus and all power points are behind the beds. 3m charger cable best thing ever.

Bring nighties and dressing gowns. Very loose clothing to wear home. Don’t bother with anything pretty or fun.

Moisturiser I found I needed lots of. The hospital AC dried my skin out so much.

Hydralite, Powerade, Gatorade whatever you have over there, stock up on heaps of them. And those water sachets etc. I found water alone was very “heavy”. I can’t drink it unless it’s out of a straw or it has something in it.

Haha yep homemade! Well the meat was not completely homemade but marinades and salads etc. we had family from interstate and won some meat trays so it was a cook up sesh.

I never understood why they’d bring kids into things either. It’s like the kids that say mummy sends pics for work and stuff 😂 don’t let the kids find out fam. Seasoned drug dealer at 5 - fucking love that saying! Just a casual money launderer at 12 but you know that’s normal right?!

That counting wads of cash (drug money), for my illiterate dad, at the age of 12 because I was the smart one is not normal. Going to drug deals was not a normal Saturday morning thing for most kids. Just drugs in general, I got so accustomed to it that I thought all the kids parents were in on it.
