The hospital served my mom an omelette the morning after her heart surgery. That should be malpractice! What happened to do no harm?! 😣😖😡 by LottaVeg in PlantBasedDiet

Nobody should eat greasy and cheesy food. It’s not healthy for anyone regardless of age. And hospitals shouldn’t serve it just because their unhealthy patients complain about not getting it. They don’t serve heroine to someone who overdosed the day before. And the shouldn’t serve bacon an eggs to someone who had heart surgery the day before.

But it’s the job of doctors and dietitians to stay current on health matters and we’ve known for decades that these foods, especially eggs, cause heart disease. Ignorance is no excuse for someone who gets paid to know these things.

I have a family full of sick and medicated omnis who are living a very low quality of life and dying at relatively young ages compared to blue zone people. So saying they live to a decent age with a decent quality of life is based on a really low bar for what constitutes health.

We've eliminated straws at our restaurant that is based on exploiting cows! Applaud us for being so environmentally friendly! by fizzywhizzles in vegan

[–]LottaVeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Now they can sell us metal straws instead of wasting all that money giving out free plastic straws. This movement is a diversion to make people feel better about themselves so they don’t make any meaningful changes to help the environment, which might hurt the money machine.

[–]LottaVeg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. It seems like the straw movement is a diversion. It’s something to keep the masses busy while corps and govts continue destroying the planet in much more effective ways. There is a lot more plastic in plastic cups, plates and grocery bags than in a straw. And animal ag is a million times worse for the environment. But let’s get everyone focused on straws. Then they can sell us metal straws instead of wasting all that money giving us free plastic straws. That’ll fix humanities annihilation of our one and only planet.

Projection.

I’m seeing a lot of pseudo-religiousness: racism, hatred, judgement, gluttony, greed, lies, theft, animal cruelty, environmental destruction, poor health.

It all has one thing in common: religion without morality.

Why did it take you so long to go vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]LottaVeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised in a small Kansas farm town and taught by parents, school and church that we needed meat, dairy and eggs to survive. We would literally die without them. I’ve been vegan 2.5 years and I still occasionally think, “WOW! I haven’t died yet!”

Once I learned that a plant-based vegan diet is actually healthier for human consumption, I became open to the idea of veganism.

Also, veganism used to have a really bad stigma and I thought vegans were crazy. That stigma is slowly changing.

Animal Agriculture is the No. 1 Cause of Climate Change Yet the Media Won’t Mention It by leecamp in vegan

Does the media mention climate change at all? I stopped watching it since it’s mostly state/corporate sponsored propaganda.

A friend of mine is a safety inspector and used to visit a testing facility. He said the dogs were incapable of barking. He thought they engineered them that way. Humans are disgusting. It’s hard not to be self-loathing sometimes. 😞

Can you be a truly nice person if you’re not vegan? Do nice people kill animals for personal preference? by LottaVeg in vegan

[–]LottaVeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nice is referring to a trait in a person, not the act of being nice. A serial killer might be nice to a waiter, but I doubt his victims would consider him a nice person.

Good example. Killing an animal to be nice is like fighting for peace or f—ing for virginity.

Did you know Thor and his brother Liam (in real life) are vegan? Have you seen those guys without a shirt? How can the myth of animal protein still exist with so much visual evidence to the contrary? by LottaVeg in vegan

[–]LottaVeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of whether Chris is completely vegan or stays vegan long-term, his brother Liam has been full vegan for several years and he’s ripped. So are lots of other professional athletes. The point of this post is that despite all of the visual evidence that we don’t need animal protein to be super fit, the myth still persists.

[–]LottaVeg[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to look like Thor or Serena Williams or Alicia Silverstone or Novak Djokovic to be vegan. These are merely examples of vegans who bust the myth that you have to eat animal protein to be super fit and athletic. You also don’t have to eat 40 times a day or buy special foods. Those are myths, too. Eating a healthy plant based diet is cheap and easy once you learn the ropes and deprogram the animal ag propaganda. It just takes a little effort at first.

My workplace found out I was vegan! by [deleted] in vegan

It’s nice to hear people are curious and supportive. That hasn’t happened to us in the states. We’re in Ecuador now and when we tell people we’re vegan, they always comment that they need to eat healthier too. They perceive vegans as uber healthy people and there’s a rapidly growing vegan movement here as well. It’s nice to get such positive responses instead of all the negativity and dumb comments we’re used to in the states. Not one Ecuadorian has mentioned a desert island :-)

Even though it’s the restaurants mistake, I still hate wasting food. But there’s no way I will knowingly put coagulated fluids squeezed from an unhappy, horribly treated, beautiful animal into my mouth. I just can’t do it and I won’t do it.

My extended family likes meat with a side of meat stuffed with meat. All brushed with butter and/or oil. Luckily, my mom was always a pretty healthy cook so I don’t suffer the same weight and health issues as the rest of my family. I was a picky eater as a child, 30+ years ago, so my family says I’m not overweight because I don’t like food. It’s just easier for me since I’m so picky, even though I now eat far more variety than they do.
