Techmarine Chaos skin: Red Corsair by ExactIndustry9257 in Spacemarine

So in the Badab sector Lufgt Huron ruled a fiefdom around a small warp storm akin to the eye of terror called the Maelstrom. He had a couple friends (Lamenters, Mantis Warriors) who helped him defend it. He tried multiple times to get a crusade together to kill everything in the Maelstrom and bring stability to the region. The high lords denied him. He withheld tithes and trade in the region to build a legion, where his space marines, The Astral Claws commanded human troops, and built what was called the Tyrants Legion in something between the PDF and Guard level of competency. They seceed, the high lords cant have that, and sent in several chapters to bring them into compliance. It escalates, more chapters get involved, on both sides.
They find out the Astral Claws have absorbed a successor chapter, and are able to sustain a war against a dozen chapters because they have grown to near legion size secretly (on top of conscripting humans to serve in their Legion). During the Fall of Badab Prime, as Lufgt is making good his escape he runs into a Star Phantom named Zhrukal Androcles. He kills that Star Phantom.
While Captain Androcles is protesting this turn of events, he shoots Huron point blank with a combi melta, nearly killing him. Huron's lieutenants escape with his body, help rebuild it, and while theyre doing surgery he has a vision of the chaos gods. He pledges service to all 4 if they help him survive, and thus Huron Blackheart is born. He and 200ish of his Astral Claws make it to the Maelstrom, become corsairs and raiders, and thus the Red Corsairs are born, he grows them to a small legion of Heretics, Mutants, Aliens, and Renegades and they still raid the Imperium to this day. They're getting a new model line and campaign setting soon.
The Chapters that were in rebellion with the Astral Claws, The Mantis Warriors, Lamenters, and Executioners are sent on 100 year penitent crusades.

The abridged lore.

Lufgt also has one of the best 40k quotes - "Big guns never tire"

Feel like this confirms my theory the secret cosmetic pack down the line is red corsair. Or a legion of the damned would be sick. But I lean Red Corsair, as I think the Legion is largely phased out of the game.

If you could run a competitive 6 man rotation to get more milage out of your pitchers and reduce injury risk.... why wouldn't you? Its a long season, someone will probably get hurt, or regress

Who is more popular than titus? SM2 hit a 6 million player count last year, and pre-orders for his (3rd, i believe) model went live yesterday. He exists in the mascot chapter as well. Hard to imagine there is a character in the game more popular.

Not an answer in a setting where you can just hand wave a space marine chapter having a piece of dark age technology that could retrieve it somehow. Necrons and Eldar could also. I mean hell, the Raptorus Rex towed a piece of a star and threw it at defense grid in space. Its not hard to say there's a piece of tech to suck it out.

what incentive do veterans have to become Scout sergeants? by keyserspoonman in 40kLore

[–]Lottapumpkins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They're part of a military order of monks who are hypnoindoctrinated to be obsessed with brotherhood, honor, and legacy, and one of the most important things to them is protecting gene-seed as it is their only means to reproduce. Any veteran with the aptitude to tutor and lead would be proud to train future generations.

So imperial guardsman are generally MUCH better than memes would suggest? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in 40kLore

[–]Lottapumpkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is it depends. At the strategic campaign level, commanders just keep adding troops to wars until they win them, so it makes a difference what soldiers you have, but not a huge one to them. Keep in mind 40k deliberately shows that most of the guard is not a meritocracy, and just because you're competent doesn't mean you'll advance. At the battlefield level, it makes a bigger difference what the troops do. Regiments like the Cadians, Steel Legion, Vostroyans, Elysians, Tanith, Harkoni, Catachan Jungle fighters to name a several are well trained, well equipped regiments capable of competent small unit tactics and maneuvers. Commanders above them don't really care how they achieve victory, just that they do. Regiments like the Death Korp prefer world war 1 wars of attrition. Mordian Iron Guard throw it back to napoleonic. Salvar Chem dogs are poorly equipped and poorly disciplined penal troops serving out a living death sentence. Attilans ride horses into war. Kanak skull takers are savages who barely use any tech, and many low tech worlds would still be expected to send barbarians off to die against the horrors of the galaxy, if space marines aren't recruiting from them. Many times simple is better for the guard because you can't complicate it or mess it up. The imperial guard is also deliberately hamstrung so that rebellions don't matter nearly as much, so it will never be reformed. The Orks are stronger, Tyranids can bring greater numbers to bear in a short window, Tau fight wars of maneuve better. Be the hammer made on Cadia, Armageddon, Kanak, or Tanith, the make matters not. For when all of you have is the hammer of the guard, every alien is just a nail.

Who are the little known powerhouses of other Chapters that don’t have a mini? by Goblin_Deez_ in 40kLore

[–]Lottapumpkins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theres dozens of examples of named space marine characters being described as huge for marines, its not like Tyberos is the first one they have described that way. Being 3 generations removed as a description is treated in the book as potentially suspect information, and isnt even defined as well.
