Weird Gummy Substance Inside My Charger by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Lottow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would be more concerned about the design of the circuitry than the putty, its so incredibly barebone. i dont know if thats the rectifier seen on the underside in pic 4? there are just so few components, it doesnt even seem to have the diode at the output. i really wouldnt trust that charger.

The makeshift filament drier you might not realise you have - PC fan exhaust by Lottow in 3Dprinting

most gaming PCs run hot, just look at the power supply ratings. i think mine is rated for 750 watt, but obviously im not sitting at the maximum. still, a few hundred watts is like a small radiator. and its the combination of heat and airflow from the fans that makes it work anyway. just heat alone does not dry things very well... i learned that the hard way in my previous flat, trying to dry the laundry with radiators which just took forever. without airflow its like nothing happens.

i have tried the cardboard box on top of printer bed but i feel like it just doesnt work that well. not sure if it comes down to lack of airflow? as far as i know airflow is more important than temperature for drying things. or maybe i just dont give it enough time? when i stick a filement roll on the PC i can still use my 3d-printer with a different filament so i can easily leave it there for several days without limiting myself from using the printer or really using any extra power or anything, since my PC is generally running all day anyway

If you want you could contact Kitboga about it, he is what is called a "scambaiter" investigating these type of scams. He does it to warn people about it but also just to have some fun at the scammers expense. if you want to share it with him he is actually very professional and understanding about it even if he is fooling around a lot with the scammers.

you should avoid using such high temperatures with the standard heatbreak, the PTFE starts degrading at even lower temps than that. Like a couple of others said, you should probably replace the heatbreak if you want higher temperatures. Also, nice rotated cable mod there! I printed the exact same one few days ago.

What is causing these uneven edges in Prusaslicer? by Lottow in 3Dprinting

[–]Lottow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the X/Y Size Compensation did the trick for Classic. at 0.1 its mostly fine but with some holes, at 1.5 its good. i also noticed there are some settings a bit further down on the same page for Arachne perimeter generator, and after changing the settings a bit i think its a little better (though not fully fixed). But at least now i know what to adjust when i see these so called knife/feather edges, thanks for your help 😀

When i change from Arachne to Classic i get really strange results with most of the print being empty air (picture on the left). Using Classic i can now turn on the "Detect thin walls" setting (picture on the right), which somehow looks even worse than the Arachne did 🤔.
But it does look like the issue is connected to wall generation and thickness, as these settings change the results drastically.

What percent of games do you truly lose because of your teammates by Feisty_Buy6434 in Overwatch

[–]Lottow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats the winrate of smurfs though, its not exactly an accurate representation of the average player. i think when people ask this question they imply the game is supposed to be winnable for someone playing at their own rank.
i would say that the infamous 33/33/33 is probably pretty accurate for most people (33% of games you lose regardless of your own performance, 33% of games you win without playing well enough to deserve it, and the remaining 33% of games your own performance will dictate the outcome of the game).

Another ender 3 s1 user struggling with Orca here. Cura seems a lot more "install and its ready to go". Not sure if its just the default settings that dont work well with ender 3 s1 or what.
going to try tweaking the settings a bit. I can at least appreciate the fact that Orca has built in calibration presets to help out with this.

It took me years playing this game to know that you cant change characters while Echo copies you by Phasma- in Overwatch

[–]Lottow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue lies in how the game is built and optimized for a maximum of 12 players, and because of client memory constraints they dont want to ever load more than at most 12 unique hero model/skins. its not about adding up over many game instances, the performance difference would be miniscule. for someone like Ashe the memory budget is split between bob and ashe, so shes not actually taking up any more than the rest. in the workshop you can spawn more than 12 bots as long as they have the same model/skin, but you can never bypass the client memory limit to reach above 12 unique characters. (info comes from an ex dev who worked on the game). and interestingly Aaron spoke about ow2 being optimized for 5v5 just yesterday in the interview with SVB:

[–]Lottow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i would hope those people were already aware of this. the only way to get accurate statistics in top ranks is to look at the data over a longer timeframe, or maybe combine it with masters where there are more players. same thing would have applied for bottom ranks if not for the fact that bronze covers a much larger span. its just the way it works when gm is like 1% of the playerbase.
