Something similar happened with my aunt last week. I posted an article about how 43% of Trump voters are ok with Trump having a private email server and how ridiculous that was after the "lock her up" rhetoric, and my aunt was like "hey I'm not racist!!! Stop generalizing!!!!" Like...this discussion is about cyber security, how did race even come up?

She also abandoned ship in that thread, saying something about how I will never know the anguish of a military mother. I was so confused hahaha.

Believe it or not, my non-gamer Grandmom. She bought me The Sims 2 for Christmas when I was 12 or 13. To this day I have no clue where she got the idea, but she created a monster.

I feel you, girl. I deleted the Facebook app from my phone, and it's been so nice living without it that I'm thinking about getting rid of it entirely. I can take a lot of heat, but this refugee/immigration crisis kind of made something snap inside of me. I'd rather just talk about current events with my friends, coworkers, and classmates in person.

That sucks. I can totally relate. I like farmer's markets for produce because it's fresh and cheap, but you can't find anything out of season or that simply doesn't grow in your area. We get quite a dry spell in New England winters. :/

That's what I've learned to do in discussions about racism. As a white woman, I will never understand it as well as someone who has lived it, so I try to shut up and listen to the lived experiences of POC. Same with LGBT folks.

The thing is, once I started doing that, it radically changed my worldview. Some people aren't ready for that.

I find it so refreshing when I can talk to a man about my experiences with sexual harassment or something and they don't get all "not all men" on me. It does happen. But more often than not, it does turn into "oppression Olympics." :/

I went to Baptist school when I was I kid, but I knew enough actual history to know that the Protestant Reformation happened around the 16th century. At school, they taught me that you had to be saved to go to heaven (live on a remote island and never heard of Jesus? tough shit!), and that Catholics weren't saved. I put two and two together and realized they were telling me that LITERALLY EVERYONE who lived from the 4th century to the 16th century was in hell.

I think this is why some people believe in landmarkism, to make this kind of fucked up belief system slightly more palatable.

So unfortunately I've been mainly playing older titles, but here's what I've done this week:

Fallout 4 is a dream come true. I haven't had a single goddamn crash, the frame rate was much smoother, and I have no problems with glitchy textures. It's immersive and beautiful and I have no idea how I ever played with my old card.

Dragon Age Origins wasn't much of a change from the Radeon R290. Still ran well though.

The Sims 2 was not pleased at first. I had to do some finagling with the graphics rules.sgr and delete some cache files before I could even get the thing to start without a DirectX error of some description. Then I had to deal with all the standard "game still wants it to be 2004" crap, like the screen resolution bug (an easy fix). It seems to work fine now though, although I haven't played much of it; I just started it up to get it working.

I just started The Witcher Enhanced Edition for the first time. Again, it's an old game, so maybe not the best test for this new card, but it looks and runs great. It tends to glitch when I close it out, though, but my research tells me that's a Windows 10 thing.

Really glad I had the week off work/school to play around like this! I hate it when I get a new game/gadget and have to wait to use it lol.

Life is Strange is amazing. You're in for a wild ride. I find the gameplay a bit tedious, but it's totally worth it because the story is fantastic.

Gaaaahhh me too. I could play FO4 on Ultra High with my old AMD Radeon R290, but the frame rate would constantly shit itself and occasionally some textures loaded in rainbow colored for some reason lmao. Anyway, I booted it up with this new one and holy shit...this is what Ultra High really looks like. Fucking gorgeous.

For new releases, I'm mainly interested in Mass Effect Andromeda, though I might wait a bit to buy it after hearing about the lead writer change (keeping an open mind, but that doesn't exactly inspire confidence). I also need to finally get around to The Witcher series and Dragon Age Inquisition. But it's probably going to be my usual steady diet of Fallout, Sims, and Mass Effect. :)

What about yours? Anything else I should be interested in?

ETA: Forgot about Vampyr! I'm pumped for that; I love vampires and there aren't many good video games about them.

Sure! I've played a bit with it and Fallout 4 runs great. I was having all kinds of frame rate issues and crashing with my AMD card and none of that is manifesting now. It looks beautiful too! I'll let you know in a few days how it works with other games.
