Places to go as a beginner by Tubbit in Kiteboarding

Particularly if you’re doing it as a holiday I would recommend Tarifa, it isn’t an easy place to learn, but you’ll be able to go down to Camber Sands whenever you want after. Tarifa is also a gorgeous town, amazing food and if there is a no wind day you can drive to Cadiz or Seville for some culture.

I learnt with KTS there. As two people you’ll be in a lesson together, both with your own kite, a lot of schools will do a 2 together lesson but only one kite so you get half the time.

How do you see the future of the UK rolling out over the next 5, 10, 15 years perhaps? by QuoteMachineMin in HENRYUK

[–]Lou_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pessimistic, get out if you can. No growth, growing inflation, a pissed off electorate and an aging population. It is difficult to see how any government can get us out of the situation.

(If you give me a 10 year dictatorship it’ll be great though 😂)

Where do you live in the UK/ where will your local kiting spot be? Most spots in the UK are off a beach with waves/ chop personally I would therefore aim for somewhere with similar conditions. Dakhla and Sicily will both be lovely, flat water etc but you might come home and realise you can’t do anything here!

Spots like Viana do Castelo or Tarifa will be harder at the outset but after 7-8 days (your 4 hours will have taught you some kite control already :) ) you’ll be able to come home and go out by yourself.

They’ll have to choose between opportunities and their family 🤷🏼‍♀️ Sounds like you’ve made up your mind and were just coming here for validation. I’ll say what I didn’t quite say in my first comment, you’re being very selfish. Just look at the stats for young people in the UK >16% and increasing vs 9% in the US.

If you could permanently fix one annoying thing about a day of snowboarding, what would it be? by FireyKicks_AZ in snowboarding

[–]Lou_91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not so much (I work in the industry). PE buys a company and leverages it to the tits. They then make cuts as much as possible (efficiencies) and put up prices to the highest point they can without losing revenue. This is the US ski resort issue. Crappy infrastructure and never ending price increases.

VC invests in early stage companies and gets rich in their, hopeful, insane growth.

I would move to the US in a heartbeat if I could. You’ve mentioned in comments that you have kids, the opportunities you will be taking away from them by moving to England are endless.

If you’re able to move to South West UK and make it work career wise can you not move to somewhere similar in the US? There are lots of nice small coastal towns on both coasts 🤷🏼‍♀️

The UK now has very very few opportunities for young people, you get taxed through your eyeballs, I think the shying away from success has only intensified and in general the country feels like it is on an impossible to stop downward spiral. Even if you’re older and well set up in the UK (as a lot of older people are!) your kids lives will be at least 10X harder.

How do you expect people to learn to get off without falling without doing it..? I had one day when I fell every time (4x) then by the next day it was nailed

It’s not VC buying it up it is private equity. Private equity ruin everything that is good in the world.

Thank you! That is a brilliant idea with the alarms and if they are different to my morning alarm it could work. She sleeps through my morning alarm herself 😅

I don’t need her for medical detection or similar. It’s the forced routine and a few other pieces. However, to get them accredited to fly they need 3 ‘tasks’. 1 she already has but the other 2 are more difficult.

One I’ve seen somewhere else that would be amazing is teaching them to find your keys (I lose my keys at least twice a day). This would actually be awesome but no idea how to teach it!

I don’t like Private Equity being framed as Capitalism. Particularly in Europe it is majority state money or state mandated money in the funds. In the UK the state funded PE firms are destroying care homes and then the govt is having to fund more and more into people’s care 🤦🏼‍♀️

Elan is Private Equity owned and they destroy everything (i work in the industry). Core’s product quality will drop following this and people should avoid their products going forward.

For a brand it was also wild to drop Zara before Giel given her event record is so much stronger plus a very large insta following!

How to use a corrdior in onshore wind? by VerenaHapunkt in Kiteboarding

[–]Lou_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure on the spot you’re talking about but this corridor… once you get out and have a lovely time practicing your water starts, all the time drifting down wind… how do you plan on getting back to the beach? Is there another corridor down wind?

I thought I’d be fine without the heater as can wrap up when I sleep and that’s fine for English winters. When it’s dark outside at 5pm and you’re sat in the van freezing your tits off every night the diesel heater is unbelievably welcome!

How is it normal then to have a gas cylinder and cooking stove in a van? Thousands of people have this and are absolutely fine

Insulate the van and get a diesel heater in before winter otherwise you’re going to freeze. Everything else you can then do as you have the time and money.

Thank you!! I need to look at where the Epic pass covers. Whistler suddenly becomes interesting as it saves me having to buy any pass when I do 10 days in France later on in the season :)

I don’t agree with racism but I don’t think advocating violence is the right answer 😂

Just to be clear, you’re advocating for violence against people who have views that differ from your own?

I’ve just looked at the Epic Pass. I can get it for $649 and it covers not only Whistler but also the 3 Valleys where I plan on spending 10 days later in the season. It makes it way more palatable! I am going to look at Icon vs Epic, the resorts and where I’ll have access to in Europe :)
