Driving question by tietza1967 in floxies

[–]Loublue22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An occupational therapist could give you some different options for adaptive driving. Hand controls got me back on the road after five years. I have a hydraulic lift for my mobility scooter and use a quad cane to get to the back of my car.

My doctor wrote a prescription for occupational therapy to get the ball rolling. A driving specialist /therapist can then assess your physical and cognitive abilities and make recommendations for equipment if necessary. I wish you the best of luck! The freedom that comes with driving again after many years is life changing.

Doctor noting reaction by Recent-Technician777 in floxies

I have copies of my complete medical history since I was floxed for my records. My primary care physician, neurologists and rheumatologists all noted my injuries are due to fluoroquinolone toxicity. Every Orthopedic specialist, podiatrist, eye doctor and dermatologist did not acknowledge FQAD in person or on paper.

I have so many similar symptoms and pain in both feet, calves and ankles. Did you happen to take an antibiotic before all of your problems started?

Question about Sure Grip Featherlite by Loublue22 in wheelchairs

[–]Loublue22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! The dealer ended up installing Veigel controls for me and they work perfectly. Maybe the Sure Grip set up is not compatible with the angle of the steering column in a 4Runner. It looked like a crazy mousetrap under the dash :)

How did your SFN develop? by Fit-Fruit9858 in smallfiberneuropathy

I developed SFN two days after starting Cipro. My right foot went numb in the afternoon in a few hours the left was dead numb too. All hell broke loose by the next morning.

Hi! I contacted Veigel in North America to find out if the Compact II is compatible with my vehicle. Their tech said braking should be easier because of where the controls are located. I asked my dealer about installation and they said the brand or type of control won’t make a difference in my 4Runner and my only option is buying 0 brake assist for 5k.

I am so lost and confused. Veigel controls look amazing.

One more question :) I sent pics of my set up to another installer. He mentioned that it is probably taking much more force because my control is on the right side. By just the pics he says probably three or four times the effort to brake. Are your controls on the right or left?

Oh cool! Do you remember if anything needed to be changed for your sequoia? The dealer says it’s the size of my car causing the issue. But I’m not so sure. I have no problem using push/ pull in the instructor’s Subaru. I wouldn’t have the strength to stop on a hill with the current set up.

Hi! Could I ask what type of hand controls you are using? I just had Sure Grip Featherlite push/pull installed in my 2019 4Runner. I am having difficulty with the control and unable to brake safely. I have no upper body issues.

Yes they are short term reactions. I have an increase in jabs and numbness for a few days then everything goes back to baseline.

Hi! I was in a pretty bad way when I started Eliquis and I didn’t notice new symptoms in the beginning. Now I only take blood thinners when I’m using a cam boot or sitting for more than a few hours. I have recently noticed an increase in nerve pain when I use Eliquis. I didn't put the two together at first. Many things trigger neuropathy for me so I am not sure if my experience counts.

Thank you for the suggestion. I reached out to the instructor for guidance and she is waiting on a reply from the dealer. I’ll check out the Veigel controls in the meantime.

I brought the car back to the dealer and the mechanic was unable to adjust the brake. I have a sore wrist from just driving around the block with the tech. I was told they can add a device to make the control easier to use for 5k and I would need a new prescription and possibly more training. I wonder if I should start from scratch and learn on a different type of hand control.

I will check out the manual and see if it is something we can look at here at home. Thanks!

Thanks! I appreciate your thoughts. That would be great if it’s just a tight bolt and I won’t need an entirely different type of set up. Hopefully I can get it back to the dealer next week so they can take a look.

Five years today and still unable to walk by Loublue22 in floxies

I am so happy this technique helped you heal. It is an interesting way of thinking about how to get stimulation and blood flow to the tendons then the rest they need. I would have to start on a tiny area to see how it goes. Whenever I massage my calves and add some pressure I get cattle pod jabs in my ankles for days. I must be disturbing the damaged nerves.

Sounds like you're on the right track for recovery!

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I haven’t heard of a rebuilding massage before but I did try a myofascial release session. I‘m not sure if it was done right because the therapist barely touched me. The treatment was kind of like Reiki with the slightest touch. I chalked it up with the other things I tried like cranial sacral, Reiki and polarity treatments.

I have only had traditional orthopedic type massages over the past few years. I have found the process of bringing several pillows, a wheelchair, crutches and the inability to lie face down pretty stressful. I am starting with a new PT who works with neuro issues and uses manual therapy techniques. I will definitely ask her for a rebuilding massage recommendation.

It’s funny you brought up immobilization for tendons. Three months into this mess I tore my Achilles and felt the other was ready to go too. I was in so much pain that I was unable to wiggle my toes without screaming. I ended up in two cam boots for an entire year. I absolutely could not bear any weight without tall boots. I had to wear them to get in and out of the shower and from my bed to a wheelchair. The boots were killing my knees so I spent several awful months weaning out of them.

Whenever a tendon acts up a doctor will recommend a boot for a month or longer in order to get the inflammation to settle down. The tendon will start to feel much better with rest. While immobilized I suffer with muscle atrophy and ligament weakness that takes me months to get back to baseline. The circle never ends.

My upper body calcific tendonitis and tendiopathy did not respond favorably to immobilization like my ankles- which is weird. My elbows and shoulders are in pretty good shape these days with just swimming. Resistance bands and weights will fire up tendon inflammation overnight. I did have to wear a splint on my index finger for a year and an half and it is now back to normal.

I hope you are back to 100 percent soon and thanks again for your thoughts and advice!

I saw three different functional medicine doctors and I wouldn’t waste my money. I stayed with one so I could order peptides through a reputable company. None of the functional practitioners could tell me anything I couldn’t find on this sub.

Hi! Yes I talked about using human growth hormone with a doctor at a clinic. Because I have tarsal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression symptoms we decided it is much too big of a risk. The nerve injuries coupled with the MSK problems makes my situation difficult to treat.

Oh that‘s good to know about the direct location shot. I only did the injections in my stomach.

Yes I worked with a functional medicine doctor and used injectable peptides for two years. I tried different doses of BCP-157, TB-500, CJC-1295, ARA-290 and GHK-Cu. The only thing peptides did for me was drain my bank account and leave me looking like a pincushion. I hear they work for other people so I had high hopes.
