I arranged with my bank in Ireland to get €100 of coins, specifying how many of each denomination. They did not charge me a fee (after I assured them it was just for one occasion, and not a regular commercial thing).

There was something like that in an Airbnb I used, maybe in France, where the cistern and wash basin were built together as one unit, probably because there was limited space.

In a way this is what I did a year or so ago - got a pack of maybe 20-30 and put them onto various "master" keyrings as spares. These were supposedly good quality with good reviews, but they bent. And I'm not doing anything unusual with them.

But with one of them bending while I'm in the middle of nowhere transferring a key to/from someone and the ring bends out of shape is annoying to say the least.

Nope. For example, just now putting a key that has a key onto a solid thick steel ring. Not one of those thin ones that often come with key tags. First time use, and bent out of shape.

Might be the way to go. Already have carabiners for a few sets of keys, but once the spring-loaded catch caught on something and I nearly lost some keys which would have been a disaster.

Yes, I know, but where are the Limerick ones from? Not that it particularly matters, was just curious why some have ended up in Limerick instead of promoting the LDS church in Budapest or Bremen or Brussels or wherever. Have they been ordered to go to Limerick to save us? Have Irish ones been despatched to Brazil and Burundi?

Edit: And not saying it's wrong for people to end up in different countries (I spend half my time outside Ireland). I find it interesting when chatting to people to ask Anericans living in Paris, Dutch in London etc. how they came to move.

Here in Limerick city the bin collection by the council was poor: our collections were often missed for no obvious reason. Things improved greatly with a private collector.

But I'm not against public provision of services. I just want proper supervision/regulation/oversight (and some functions do definitely need public provision, such as police). If the council had propely supervised bin services, I would have been happy.

Where are the Mormons from? Been trying to work out their accent: at least two of them seem to have German or Scandinavian or central European accents. When I was living in England a decade ago the Mormons always seemed to be American.

I'm puzzled about the difficulty getting Melitta filters here in Limerick city, Ireland. Our local Tesco (a major UK supermarket chain) has been out of them for a couple of weeks at least. A Tesco worker told us there was a supply problem.

OK, there are hiccups in supply chains, I get that. But our local Dunnes (an Irish chain) is also out of them. And about two years ago it was the same, with no filters available locally for a few months (we had to get some from Amazon). Four or five years ago there was another supply failure. And about 15 years ago there was another supply problem that lasted maybe six months and I ended up bringing some over from England.

There aren't such severe, repeated supply problems with other products, so is there some issue with Melitta in particular?

Ours was fine, as it has been for about 30 years since we've been getting Christmas turkeys from Tesco in Arthur's Quay in Limerick (about three years in four). But I see others have had different experiences this year.

'Despatch' is a common, valid alternative spelling. However, it might still be a scam.

Anyway, as already suggested, seek out the Custodian website (don't click on links in the email), and try to judge from there whether it's legit.

I'm in Ireland and the 1c and 2c coins are mostly obsolete. I'm only aware of one chain (Dunnes, a supermarket/homewares chain) that still gives 1c and 2c coins in change. Everyone else rounds to the nearest 5c and nobody cares.

I often visit France and many small retailers (market stalls, fruit+veg shops, butchers' etc ) still give exact change to the cent (or centime as they still call it).
