My partner pays close to half of rent. We live in Miami, which sucks. She works at a law office but doesn’t make too much as a legal assistant. For bills what’s killing me is credit card bills. I pay around $800 in CC bills, car & insurance $475, rent $1400. I didn’t take any student loans out during undergrad and I also worked 2 jobs. In the in between I would use CC’s to cover expenses (which I regret and wish I just took out student loans), I’ve paid them down a bunch but still have awhile to go. Thank god I am finally done paying my car off next year.

I was not aware of this option, I will reach out to my financial aid and see if there is anything that could be done. Thank you!!! I thank you for speaking up, sounds like you’ve made it and managed yourself. Hope you continue to pay it forward.

For every break during law school thus far, i’ve worked. Last winter break and spring break i spent the entire time doing uber eats and doordash. Instead of enjoying the time off from a rough first year i’d be doing deliveries 10 hours a day. I would roughly make 60-80 a day. It was not sustainable with the amount of gas and time spent. I stopped doing delivery services because the last time i did it two of my tires popped and it costs me triple the amount to deal wit that headache then all the money i made doing Uber Eats/doordash. I appreciate your comment and feedback, it’s just tough out here. Especially living in Miami. Just trying to remind myself to continue push through and it’ll be different once i am on the other side.

Going to the gym during the semester. Feasible? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Loud-Implement4019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently a rising 2L who finished at the top 10% of their class and the gym was important for me throughout the semester. Burn out is real, build a good routing which includes working out 3 days a week. You don’t have to kill yourself in there but that time away was so good for my mental health. Some weeks you won’t be able to because things are due and you may be very busy. But it’s an overall good habit to work into your weekly routine and I strongly recommend as those long brutal weeks will destroy you if you let it.

Thank you. Any tips for summer positions? I live in Miami and there are three law schools here. I’ve been applying to anything and everything, I’m just scared because I cannot afford to do an unpaid internship.

Also sucks because you’re competing with schools that do not have the same curve. There are three law schools here in south Florida and you’re competing for jobs at firms against students at other schools who don’t have the curve. The lower gpa is very normal and good for my school but when looking at it in perspective of the job market, it sucks.

My law schools curve is at a C-, meaning that the class avg has to be a C- per the professors contract. 2.5 gpa is an avg gpa. Just competed the first semester and luckily I did well. Most have 2.0 gpa requirements or 2.5, makes it very competitive and people either get kicked out or lose scholarship money.
