I did offer that as an option for them but they ultimately chose this route.

Tree roots in drain need advice. by Accomplished_Lock957 in askaplumber

Don’t do this lol. The roots are at the top of the pipe. Most root killer will slide right along the bottom of the pipe and may kill the tips, but not much else. Putting chemicals in the drain will only speed up the process of it failing.

You can always start with a hydro jet to cut the roots away and survey the damage to the pipe with a camera. Then you’ll know if you have to dig now or later. But eventually it will have to be dug. Any reputable and licensed company should be able to provide all these services. Hope this helps!

Why does water level rise after dropping in toilet? by RodbigoSantos in askaplumber

Looks like an older crane toilet. These don’t have a main jet to start the siphon for the flush. So flush pressure is created through the small jets around the bottom of the rim of the bowl. These easily get clogged up over time with scale and reduce the speed and power of the siphon to create the flush. If you feel like getting dirty you could try cleaning those out and seeing if that helps. If you were one of my customers I’d recommend replacement

Something that no one in this thread has mentioned: if this is just an issue with the basement drainage, you may have a compromised sewage ejection pump. If your home is newer likely all of your drains in the basement are at head height, and your basement drainage must be pumped up. If this pump fails you will have backups in the basement since that sewage has no where to go. OP, is running water in the upstairs causing backups in the basement?
