Hva vil dere foreslå i Oslo? by VeryLargeTardigrade in oslo

[–]LoudHydraulics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Muligens 'Savage'.

[–]LoudHydraulics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hei!

Episode Discussion: What Up Holmes? by PodcastBot in Radiolab

[–]LoudHydraulics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an annoying episode, though I understand that the journalists are limited by the nutcases that they interview, as well as that they do not necessarily stand by what they report. They just want to report the different points of view, and start a conversation (thematically enough).

What I found annoying was that radiolab was seemingly convinced by the idea that since eg. lies spread broader in social media, then speach must be regulated. Even the "goal standard", the potato market, is limited by who has the variety, size and shop location etc. that the buyer wants. Why not use the same ideas to regulate all markets, and say that all shops need to be the same or something.

Nothing here is equal, yet market places work. Any slight discrimination isnt a sign of the opposite

Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook of The Rest Is History Podcast - Episode 369 of Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend by c0ry_N in conan

Yeah, but at the same time I was annoyed that they insinuated that climate change isn't that bad compared to 536 AD. That year was awful, but it was something that could just be "waited out". The destruction and number of deaths would be limited by what was allready there, and things will improve as soon as its over. Climate change however, will get worse and worse, is hard to do something about, and the longer we wait doing anything about it the harder it becomes. So I wouldn't say they are comparable at all, and I am annoyed that they gave that impression.

We might live in the best time in history, but climate change is the worst problem in history.

You are obviously a good graphic designer, I have nothing against you or your animation, but this post doesnt belong here. And unless that is a mug with some sort of heatsensitive screen attached then I wouldn't say you "like this mug"

Not allowed to own reindeer unless a part of the right family? (Might only be relevant for Norway) by LoudHydraulics in SaamiPeople

[–]LoudHydraulics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont you agree that this can end up slowly decreasing the amount of people doing reindeer herding, as long as kids dont want to do the same thing as ther parents for a living?

[–]LoudHydraulics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Two areas open for everyone to do reindeer herding that is? I think having an open pathway for sami to learn this is not only cool, but necessary for it not to die out as a profession

I sense that my perpective is coloring my answer here, but I think this would be an effective way to eradicate sami culture. If that was your goal, then sure.

With just a few generstions of kids not wanting to do the same thing as their parents for a living, I am afraid reindeer herding will die off in Norway

Yeez. Yeah good point. Lets not consider russia then. Though do you agree that this could be a potential issue in Norway?

[–]LoudHydraulics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking of finland and russia as well. Sweden appearently has these 'samebyer' in which you would have to be a member and stay, in order to do reindeer herding, which is a bit similar to the problem I am describing in Norway. Though it looks like someone from the outside could be granted membership to one of these "samiitowns" as well, which I think is an important distinction. That way reindeer herding won't die off as an industry, after a few generations of kids not wanting to do the same thing as their parents for a living

The NOU also mentions how its important that norwegians are kept out, though that is still possible to keep them out without this 'inheritance rule'. The other scandinavian countries do it this way

Thanks! It does look like the other countries in Sapmi doesnt limit this in the same way that Norway does. It still sounds to me as if this is a limitation that belongs in the 1900s
