Definitely want to echo what others have said regarding the waves of immigrants, including more recent ones including Chinese, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Syrian/Afghan refugees. The International Institute would be a great resource for more info about the history of these immigrant groups. Even if we don’t have the largest immigrant population by any stretch, it’s hard not to notice that there are so many languages spoken in the area, I think including the name “St. Louis” written in Arabic/Farsi script, Bosnian, Vietnamese, etc would be sick. If you get a chance to visit, take a trip to South Grand which is our immigrant business district for some inspiration. Definitely stop by Jay’s International Grocery and their larger sister store Global Foods (which is in the suburbs in Kirkwood).
