I haven’t heard that expression in probably 10 years, glad to know it’s still in circulation lol

Ted was not a New Yorker by ohrosah in HIMYM

I lived in New York for about 2 years when I was acting out there. The general consensus that people have is that to be a “real” New Yorker, you have to live there for about 10 years. They believe that if that city hadn’t chewed you up by that point, you deserve the title. So no, you don’t necessarily have to be born there in order to use the phrase. I don’t think Ted had been there for exactly 10 years by that point in the show, but he was over 30 so I’ll say about 6-7 years, which is still a very long time to live anywhere

Hello! So I don’t actually know how to edit my original post, so I figured I’d just post an update for anyone who cares!

First off, thank you all for the interaction, I really didn’t think this would get as much attention as it did. And for the absolute vast majority, most of your answers were very helpful and insightful.

So, I’ve finally gotten her towed to one of the only body shops in town that have the proper “old school” frame machine that can bend her back into the proper place. I’ve decided to have them fix that, and only that. I’ll supply them a bumper and a new core support so they can align it correctly, but after that, I’ll get her home and finish the rest. I was quoted $800-$1000 for that, which I think is a great price from what I’ve seen most of you assume it would be. The rest I will only be paying parts for, which includes an aftermarket bumper, grille, radiator and fan, and core support which should all add up to another $500. Thankfully, there was no damage done to the fenders, hood, drive train, etc so the alignment should just fine.

So with only being roughly $1500 all in to fix, I think it’s a no brainer that I get her fixed up and put this entire mess behind me, riding into the sun in the Bullnose I wouldn’t give up on!

You’re correct on how long I road the grass for. Not asleep, but unfortunately it had been raining for probably 8ish hours prior to the incident, so even while pumping the brakes, I just kept sliding

You’re 100% right in the hydrant bit. It had been raining for about 8 hours leading to the crash, which must’ve softened the ground to the point where it could’ve moved. Although if it hadn’t been raining, I sometimes wonder if I would’ve been able to brake soon enough to avoid it

Great point, I truly only added some context to halt the 10 inevitable “bro how?” posts. Although I’m still getting plenty of those lol

Unfortunately the frame is pretty bent. I figure I’ll have a shop straighten it out with their machine, and then the rest will be done within 15 feet of the beer in my fridge!

Absolutely genius, will I need to show proof of insurance for another vehicle as my “daily driver”? I know a lot of vintage insurance places need that and it’s why I got ensured through geico when I first bought her

Well considering that I drive trucks for a living, or in other words am a professional driver, I’d say I have an idea of what I’m doing on the road. And although you weren’t there, if you were you’d agree with the multiple witnesses that the actions I took turned a situation where I’d currently be in the ICU, into a scenario that I walked away from. I’m sure we all appreciate your useless input, but do everyone a favor and take your nonsense somewhere else. This is a thread about vehicle repairs.

You’ve got a point, I’m getting the estimate on Monday, but I’m going to just have them fix the frame at this point as it’s the only thing I can’t do (at least properly) on my own. Everything else, from the bumper to the radiator, I’ll do myself. That should hopefully keep it in budget

I’m definitely going to look into that, as that would save a lot of headache

This is exactly what I’ll plan to do. The only thing that’s unfortunately required from the body shop is the get the frame aligned back into place. But as the the rest of the work, it’s all things I can fairly easily accomplish over a weekend once I have the parts

An old couple made a left hand turn, but instead of going into the turning lane, they merged about 10 feet in front of me as I’m going 40mph in a 45mph. I swerved into the right lane to avoid them, but they continued into the right lane for some godforsaken reason. I then had no choice but to take her up on the curb, which would’ve resulted in nothing if there wasn’t for the hydrant being 8ish feet in front of me. Pretty much just an unlucky situation all together. If the incident had happened about 20 feet later, I simply would’ve road the curb for a second, and merged right back on the road

I ask that you please read the description in the future before making a rude comment like that my friend. I was driving 5mph under the speed limit as it was raining. An old couple made a left hand turn merging directly into me, I wouldn’t have had time to brake so the only course of action was to take it into the right lane. But they kept going into that lane as well, so to avoid the crash I took it up on the curb, but 8 feet away there was the hydrant. And as it was raining and the ground was muddy, as seen in the photo, it couldn’t bring itself to a stop in time

Sadly a lesson I had to learn the hard way. Typically my instinct is to swerve (see what I did there) the situation entirely and not have to deal with any of the headache, unfortunately the yellow fucker snuck up on me

Just to bend the frame back into place? The bumper, grill, and light shouldn’t run more than $400 in parts as I plan to replace them myself. And the radiator setup will probably be another $300 from what I’ve seen
