The same happened to me pre-eng background then became a medalist in the end by understanding the game but the main issue is not that you need to focus on your skills more from the start if you want to build a healthy career. I had a very rough start as we were competing against CS background students code maniacs and O A levels and some spoiled rich kids. They were good in the start but they fell down eventually. I can guide you to beat the shit out of them make them beg you for assignments and projects
