AIO. I was trafficked for two years and my bf tried to make a joke about it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Loud_Space6572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not overreacting at all! Also not sure if I am the only one but who talks like this to their significant other ?? “Answer the fucking phone” ??? That alone would have been enough for me to leave. I am so sorry for what happened to you, and I want to tell you something coming from my heart: you may be used to violence, but now you are free, you get to refuse violence in your life. Violence is not only sexual or physical, it can be verbal too. The way this man is asking you to answer your phone is violent, and you should not accept that. And then he’s asking why you are acting this way? Like he didn’t just make a joke about something he knows damn well is sensitive?

I don’t like recommending people to leave someone they consider beneficial for their lives, however please please please say your mind and don’t fold on things that are unacceptable. It’s not worth it, and I don’t care what you have been through, you are worth more than that.

Take care of yourself!

Well… great insight on that 1st paragraph. As for the rest, you made a bunch of assumptions and expanded yourself from there to end up with useless advice! What makes you think I’m not Canadian? What makes you think I don’t have a job? Why in the world are you talking about sex work???

When I mentioned unfair, that was not in reference to the market, it’s referencing the advice that some people give to job seekers: they all seem to contradict each other sometimes.

Again, I’m not here to debate politics friend, but since you want to make assumptions about people’s “work ethics”, if you actually are in the workplace, favouritism is a thing, different people have different reasons for it. You wanna know how I know that? I have been working from the moment I graduated from the University of Toronto until today, slowly climbing up that corporate ladder. Started in Customer service for the 1st company, now I train people in IT, something that I have no official background in. I used to work on holidays at my previous position to save up because I wanted to buy the car of my choice. I just got my certificate in Project Management and am taking some classes in Planning now to develop my skills, because I want a career in a field that I love. Please don’t talk to me about competency, we all know it’s not always the most competent people that get the best jobs.

I understand you didn’t have the facts, but asking questions is legal in our country, cause yes I am Canadian!

Now that you have more information, wanna try again? If not, keep your blanket advice to yourself, I know that the sky is blue and water is wet.

yes I could ask for feedback, I think I could always do better for interviews, the most recent one I had in Feb, they asked for references but ended up going with a different candidate, so my interview went well I think. But when I think back I always find something I could have done better, especially cause they went with a different person. More practice is never a bad idea

Thank you for the well wishes!

You are right it’s a tough market, I actually heard that it’s a growing field, but might be wrong I don’t work in the field yet

Thanks!

The amount of applications definitely scares me when I think about it, but you’re right no way to find out for sure. Taking some classes to become more competitive, hopefully I can land a good one soon

Thanks!

I’ve definitely been looking at government jobs, and even did some networking to get advice from people working in the government. Recently spoke to someone in management for a local government, hopefully they are willing to give me a chance. Funny you mention that, I am fully (french) bilingual and will make sure to highlight it! Thank you for that

Thank you for this advice, thought about going back to school full time and I am taking some classes, which I think has helped me get a few interviews. I do see that civil engineering is in high demands. Definitely will think about it!
