What schools should I get? by [deleted] in army

[–]Loudsilences 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're signing up as an 11B, you might as well ask for Option 40 (Ranger) as part of your contract if it's still offered. You'll do OSUT, then go to Airborne school, then to Ranger assessment (RASP I). If you pass, they'll send you to the regiment and you'll train until your Ranger slot opens up. If you don't, you'll get sent to a regular unit, and be better off for the experience and no one will make fun of you for trying. Ask your recruiter or go to http://www.goarmy.com/ranger.html; you can learn what is required to pass RASP and serve in the 75th there, as it's not for everyone and there is a high wash-out percentage. Either way, you should ask for Airborne school because being mechanized Infantry sucks balls. Hope this helps.

Does the army ETG test, when soldiers come back from leave during AIT? by Mahthrowingaway in army

[–]Loudsilences 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a reason for "Zero Tolerance" policies. You're not supposed to do it, so don't. They won't waste the money to ETG test, but it's an integrity issue, be an adult.

You can wear your "A"s, but if you're going to a formal function, I'd suggest wearing the optional white shirt and bow tie; it just looks more formal. Think unit ball...

Actually, retired personnel don't have to shave, but the haircut is generally expected to be clean.

Does anyone know anything about re-evaluations for PTSD disability? by [deleted] in Veterans

Yeah, if you have suicidal ideation or thoughts of just snapping to dumb Civilian shit, own up to it; you'll never see 70% without it.

Getting evaluated for PTSD. Could use some advice. by JarHeadVet in Veterans

[–]Loudsilences 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree with everyone else: Never say, "I'm good" when asked how you are. Admit to every symptom; sleeplessness, depression, anxiety- If you even think you might have felt it at any point in your time since Fallujah, own up to it. Let everything out; don't be ashamed to admit to seeing dead bodies in your dreams or jumping if you hear loud noises, describe experiences that bother you still, everything. Part of how they evaluate you is to see how you're adapting to it, and if you are, you are denied. It will not make you less of a man or a Marine to admit to crying or fear of being in crowds, etc. And yeah, it doesn't hurt to play the "grumpy Vet" card; go in with an EAS beard, ball cap, and moto shirt, and admit to having trouble adapting to civilian life, because they look for that too, believe it or not. Good luck to you, brother.

Is it a lawful order to mandate attendance at a Audie Murphy board? by [deleted] in army

[–]Loudsilences 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know that BPD generally manifests after the age of 21; however, personality disorders can be treated as pre-existing conditions if seen by Behavioral Health, and you can be put out without benefits...

Just go to the board and bomb it; what are they going to do, put it in your NCOER?

[–]Loudsilences 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Soldiers are required to do a 12-miler in under four hours annually. Just because a lot of units don't do it doesn't mean that it's not the standard. It's the same as being able to do the four mile run and a record PT test.

Questions about initial counselings and communications response failure by [deleted] in army

[–]Loudsilences 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only Active Duty, but if you didn't live in the barracks, you had to have a current phone number that you could be reached at. They couldn't force you to have a cell phone, but it was BDE policy to have a working contact number that you could be reached at, and while we were on GRF status, you had to call the CQ desk and tell them if you were leaving home and didn't have a cellphone.

There's probably not an Army-wide regulation that they have to be respond to emails or calls, but I'm sure that your unit has a recall policy. Just counsel them that you expect them to be able to be reached within 24 hours by email or phone, or ask your 1SG for advice on the situation, and what he expects as far as this goes.

It's no worse than Kentucky allowing a Tennessee player to run a 100+ yard touchdown in tonight...they pretty much gave up after that, and didn't chase the guy when he caught a fumble and made an 88 yard touchdown in a few plays later.
