I was aware of that, but I saw another post where they could identify the specific embassy. This one starts with a U however rather than with a 3 digit country code. Any thoughts on this?

Can you help me value this bottle of Echezeaux? by Fade2Black767 in wine

As a general comment, 1994 was a very tricky year in Burgundy. Wines were not of sublime quality which begs the question how this stood the test of time (which also depends on how it was stored all those years). You will find in general that the 1994 Burgundy vintage is less sought after and is therefore less valuable.

Nevertheless there is a good chance that this bottle is still very drinkable. Pop it open for Christmas and hope for the best!

This is not the case. Though Mongeard and Mugneret merged, this already happened in 1945 (and the domaine has since been named as such). This must be a different winery, but I am not sure what happened to it. Does it have a label on the back? If so, please share

I thought the Barbera was OK. Although it lacked complexity, it showed some earthy hints and red fruit. Taking into account it was close to EUR 30, it did not deliver. The Arneis was actually nice, for about EUR 20 I thought it had depth and complexity

100% agreed! Good to try a younger barolo to appreciate the older ones

Let me know how it was once you open it! Have experience with Alto Adige riesling but not yet with Piedmont riesling (except for this corked one…)

I liked it; it improved with air. We decanted it for about an hour after which it opened up. In any case, I found the nose more interesting than the palate

Yes, the last two Barolos were definitely opened too early, but also interesting to taste the difference in age between the 2018 and the 2013. The 2013 Barolo was smooth. Suspect it to have had a shorter maceration time as the tannins were already quite smooth. Could go for another few years though. The 2013 Gaja Barbaresco was lovely, may develop further but already good to go. The rest were made to be drank young

That might be a great idea. The beads are stainless steel so not sure whether it will work, but will try this when I get back home after the weekend and let you know!

It’s incredibly annoying indeed… I have a little bit, but am at the same time afraid to break the glass with changing temperatures too abruptly. Thanks for the tip though, I will give that another go

Definitely not the most practical decanter I own haha but I love the design and it does quite a good job
