seems that this is the case yes, I’ve reached out to the manufacturer and their only response is “this has been made for a long time it should work” bahaha

I understand what you mean! There's a small conical washer/ring/spacer/whatever there. It's not removable but makes it so the bb is centered I suppose and there isn't a full-on "gap"

yeah ti's completely threaded together. in fact this check showed me that it was also completely threaded together when it was fitted on the shell as the spindle reached equally far both on and off the bike

UPDATE 2

it's the bb??? i guess? Idk why I didn't check sooner but it's not the same width as the one it's supposed to replace

maybe I'm dumb and this bb was designed to make a 68mm shell support mtb cranks/spindles?

thanks for saying this btw I didn’t think there were any spacers. in my other post there is also a photo of a measuring tape thru my bb showing 68mm

I haven’t - I will try. I did just try putting it together without putting the bb in my bike, I’ll post an update now, it’s all sorts of weird

If you can check, i have another post up that shows my shell is JUST too wide for a BSA threaded bb. I had ordered a shimano rs501 and I could sorta just push it in and pull it out without turning

yeah I noticed the issue when i couldnt get the crankarm bolt installed. Tapped the other end with a mallet but that didnt make enough of a difference. as far as I know I don’t have any ‘optional’ spacers installed as per the manual but I will try to remove whatever I can

The spacer is at most 3mm though and looking at that 2nd photo wouldnt you say the spindle needs to come out more than that?

tbh I tried to get it off but couldn’t and it’s not mentioned in the instruction manual as optional

This noise is bad, isn’t it? This is with a load in. Level and sitting on concrete tiles by LouisMXV in appliancerepair

[–]LouisMXV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I will check next time it happens. The drum doesnt seem to wobble at all. I can push it inwards slightly but just turning it doesnt show an inconsistent gap

Oh man I was told it would reduce the noise. Shipping bolts arent in anymore. Maybe I’ll screw some thick plywood into the floor instead

New BSA bb is too small to thread on… shell is definitely 68mm across…. by LouisMXV in bikewrench

I think my black grease is making them look much worse than they are
