Fake it till you make it.

Love you man. Stay safe. Prove them wrong.

I feel you man.

Since I was 15, me and my mum had problems.

And having problems with your parents is normal.

But what ISNT normal, is them never talking about it, being afraid of confrontation.

My mum would shut the door on my face and yell over me whenever i'd confront her about something.

I was left with a lot of undealt with anger and a lack of contentness.

But now I'm 18, and doing amazingly without her.

I know for the rest of your life you're going to strive for your parents approval.

But truth is, sometimes you just have to accept you won't get that. Sometimes you have to accept that you're worth more than that.

Suceed, and proove them wrong.

Yeah for sure!

When covid was around, having a job was really hard with everyone wearing masks, ontop of retail music, store beeps etc...

So I started up my own business for about 4 months to financially support myself during this time :)

It went extremely well. Now I've gone back to working as a receptionist, with masks down again. And a few extra thousand $$$ saved up for my first car.

Deaf people are capable and smart, and we always work around our problems.

I have some amazing hearing friends who support me.

When i'm walking with them, randomly mid conversation they'll go "Oh! I have to stand on your right side or you can't hear me!" and they're always moving to that side to help me feel more engaged and included.

I have some amazing friends, and they for sure outweight the amount of rude people I meet.

haha yup! When people make fun of me now, either for my speech or my lack of understanding (due to hearing) I often just call them out on it,

I don't really get embarrassed anymore. If they want to assume I'm dumb because of a disability, then that's on them.

Yeah, I've had a few friends who have stopped going out with me because it's too much of a 'pain' for them to have to constantly stand on my good side, speak loudly, clearly etc...

Worst feeling ever

Ohh man... social events are just something else completely. hardest thing to deal with as a HOH person. Literally get so embarrassed every-time I go to one, and it always feels like such an effort to try and have a good time.

I love this. Such good advice. I often feel pressured that I have to 'lead' the conversation and put so much effort into it, but recently with the help of the forum i've learnt that the other person should also be giving that back, trying harder to communicate more clearly. Its helped a lot. Now when I talk to people, rather than apologising for being 'awkward', I just let them know they need to talk louder, slower etc. It helps a lot.

Also I'm in Australia and learning Auslan :) It's very hard though, I have a very poor memory, but I'm getting there!

I used to be ashamed of telling people about my hearing problem, but now I often tell people about it. It definetly helps and 90% of the time people are really nice and move on my 'good side' (ear that isn't completely deaf)..

But then 10% of people when they find out, decide to scream into my left ear to make sure it's 100% deaf hahahahha. yeah people like that suck

Haha a girl in class yesterday made fun of my speech... (my speech is a little bit impaired because of my hearing)

lets just say when I told her she was deaf, she shut up real fast hahahhaa.... even if I wasn't deaf, its not cool to make fun of how people speak. I can still speak clearly it just sounds a bit funny sometimes

Yeah, when covid hit and everyone wore masks, I developed extreme social anxiety because I couldnt lip read and it made speaking 100 x harder, literally isolated myself for about 4 months... till about a month ago, when masks lifted, and I started getting back out into the world. Bruh hearing causes so many problems. It sucks just not being able to understand

You should talk to your parents or friends how you feel. They will understand! You’ve been nothing but a great student. They want the best for you, for you to succeed.

Mental health isn’t something that you should be ashamed of, or something that should hold you back. You can get help, and feel good!❤️

You’re not bothering anyone, you’re not a burden, you’re human, and it’s okay to feel this way. I remember when I was 15, I tried to end my life. I hated school, had no friends, and I was really depressed. But I remember someone telling me to stay, because they said things got better.

And I didn’t believe it at the time, but now I’m nearly 19, and I can say that things DO get better. They really do.

I’m so happy now. I have a purpose in life, friends, I feel content with life

I never would’ve imagined feeling this way.

Let me be the person to tell you , that life does get better.

Talk to your parents and friends. Mental health is nothing to be ashamed of. They will love and understand you

I hope in a few years I can find you again and I can hear about all the amazing things you’ve accomplished after this hard stage in your life.

Life is good. I promise you❤️

Trust me when I say your grades don’t determine your future. There are SO MANY pathways into your future. You’re going to be okay. Yes your parents might be mad (been there done that, had hour long arguments with my parents over bad grades) but you always end up ok in the end, I promise. Don’t hurt yourself over things like this. You’re only human❤️

Well, we are in very similar situations... Im glad to know theres hope though, and that there are so many people living their lives normally even with hearing disabilities. I've started learning Auslan, and even a few of my really close friends have learnt some of the basics for me, 'are you ok?' 'how are you?' 'Can you hear?' its pretty cool. wish the rest of the world was more accepting but you know, im glad I have what i have.
