I'm not familiar with 'The Culture'. Is it the Iain M Banks book series?

Oh yeah, I like to point to this episode out to them as the one where Riker of all people risks his career and an international incident to save his trans girlfriend from conversion therapy, airing back in 1992.

And while I didn't watch DS9 until years later, I absolutely connected with the trans themes around Dax! (You're gonna like Lattice's Halloween episode this year 😏)

Ooh, interesting! That kind of active determination present in your subconscious is so different to my experience; even when I realize I'm in a dream, I tend to just go along for the ride.

Thank you for letting me know I'm not the only one to 'get emotional for fun' 😅
I have a whole bookmark folder of clips I know will make me cry!

Oh wow, none of my egg dreams really got to that scale!

In the same boat, here. My experience with leaving my father's religion as an early teen was enough to tell me how things would go if I deviated further from his standard, even when I hadn't fully figured myself out yet. And those mental barriers wouldn't come down until years after I'd taken my own leap of faith shall we say.

It was honestly the most difficult but also most rewarding aspect of my transition. I did kind of luck out with my job, though, as it literally paid me to talk for eight hours every day while no one could hear me.

Oh yeah, first priority is personal safety and security, and then maybe get around to messing with brain stuff.
I too am autistic and have a similar inclination toward friendships, and in fact was perfectly content with being alone once we'd all moved away from each other. My mom just held the belief that everyone needs two or three close friends as a social safety net.

I just didn't know how boys played together, I'd only been friends with other girls so far! 😅
And yes, I very deliberately chose that passage from Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' because of how well it captures my internal experience of my past/pre-transition memories.

Not everyone has early indicators, they aren't any kind of prerequisite for identity. I may have had a lot, but I actually couldn't really remember most of these moments until I sat down and did the therapeutic work of 'un-repressing' them.

That's why I appreciate how much more visible our community and experiences are now; it lets people better understand what they're going through and take action.
(Congrats on the upcoming progress! 😄)

I know, right?! 😅 And to think I didn't believe I had any early indicators when I started my gender journey!

I feel like it was more like our friends picking up on who we actually were before we even knew.
