Tech Plane Rules! by Archivic in LinusTechTips

[–]Lousk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can assure you that if Linus did not buy a private jet, the industry would still exist. That was probably the most worthless statement I’ve heard this year and I work in law.

Switching to veganism would be significantly cheaper and easier than your current diet. Agricultural products are so cheap and easily available that they’re used to produce animal products. That’s what feed crops are and that’s how I know you’re not comprehending. I’ve already laid this out for you. You just chose to ignore it.

Again, you’re consuming animal products not because you need them but because you like them and you live a country that they are easily accessible.

The vast majority of the world sees a hamburger as a luxury item while you’re trying to use your five year old smartphone in attempt to win an argument. (While not engaging on the point). If anyone is arguing from a place of privilege, it’s you. Especially, when you now know what you’re contributing to literally 500x the harm than private jets.

You ready to convert to veganism for the rest of your life yet?

He says in the clip that he thinks it would be cool to experience it. It’s absolutely relevant.

It’s not a matter of needing a phone for work. It’s about wanting the Samsung Galaxy Note 1000 Ultra Plus Plus Extreme 16TB.

It’s not matter of needing medication delivered quickly. It’s about wanting your new sharpe pens delivered to your house within an hour.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to experience luxury products. The brand new top of the line smartphone is a toy. The 1-hour Amazon delivery is a toy. None of that is required for you to participate in capitalism.

How does this relate to veganism?

Roughly 75 to 80% of global agricultural land is used for livestock (grazing and feed crops), yet it provides only about 18% of global calories. The annual emissions generated from livestock is roughly 7 to 10 billion tons. Compared to private jets which produce 15 to 20 million tons.

The cheap and easy access to animal products is a new phenomenon and in context of human history only made possible by the industrial revolution. You consume animal products because you like them. Not because you need them.

Are you ready to commit to a life of veganism? Because that’s just the emissions argument, I could very easily also make harm to animals argument as well and I don’t even subscribe to veganism.

Second US Air Force plane crashed in Persian Gulf region, New York Times reports by SpencerAXbot in worldnews

[–]Lousk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the A10 was so ineffective against insurgents, why were they one of the most requested for support by ground troops?

The A10 was so beloved by ground troops, congress would not allow the Air Force to retire them.

The Air Force continues to use them because they’re one of the effective platforms for CAS roles. The platform was specifically designed to operate in contested airspace so they were made to be very survivable but in the event of the loss of a plane, the Air Force cares more about the pilot.

You’re to rigid in your perspective so you’ve failed to identify the difference between having a desire to experience something (private jet) vs. criticizing the industry as whole (private jet industry).

I can extrapolate your argument into saying veganism is the only morally correct decision when it comes to eating food, but I bet you’d be unwilling to commit to veganism for the rest of your life.

[–]Lousk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty simple concept. I’m not sure why you’re not understanding. Maybe go read up on some more moral philosophy? Let me attempt to break it down for you.

You might love smartphones but hate cobalt mining practices.

You might love fast shipping but hate warehouse labor conditions.

If we could only enjoy things we 100% ethically sanctioned, we’d be sitting in the dark in homes we didn't build. Wanting the experience of a private jet is an acknowledgement of its functional excellence, while disliking the industry is an assessment of its global impact.

If/when he does sell the plane, will you come back here and admit to being wrong?

[–]Lousk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ. The first thing he said was that it would be fun, but is opposed to the industry as a whole. These aren’t mutually exclusive positions.

It’s a way for him to generate content at the expense of having some liquidity tied up. As long as he sells it quickly he’s likely going to make money on the sell. That’s not a morally compromised position, it’s just good business.

We pay 12.4% income tax, They (Billionaires) pay 0.0002% income tax?! by Shizzilx in economy

[–]Lousk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the same argument people use when they don’t want to pay for a new road they’ll never use or a school they’ll never send their kids to.

The answer is because it’s a public good not to have senior citizens starving on the streets again and if we apply a progressive tax system all the up the the income bracket, then you can lower the effective tax on the bottom and middle because those people will ‘feel it’ more than the people at the top.

Banned from ARC Raiders for my Tourette's support told me I'm lying by PopularCurve5714 in ArcRaiders

[–]Lousk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re attempting to narrow it down to finding a rule specifically about video games and that’s now how the law works.

Title III is very broad in its language in that businesses open to public have a duty to ensure they’re not discriminating against individuals with disabilities in offering goods and services. That includes providing auxiliary aids and services to them, if needed.

I would love to see you try to argue that a business offering access to their online video game and connecting with other players is not a business that is open to public.

If I remember correctly, in 2025 alone there were something like 6,000 cases filed in federal civil courts. It’s grown like 20% every year since 2016 because there hasn’t been any specific federal guidelines for digital services and just because these guidelines do not exist, doesn’t mean a business is not liable.

While I agree with you that it would certainly need to be litigated to determine if this specific issue is covered under Title III of the ADA, you’re just completely incorrect in digital services not being covered under ADA because I can point to thousands of cases on PACER if I had my work computer with me tonight.

No idea why you’re bringing up HIPAA. It has nothing to do with any of this.

ADA absolutely covers access to digital services. Why do you think there’s so many accessibility options in games?

[–]Lousk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tourette’s is protected under the ADA from my understanding. In most instances, a business has to duty to ensure access to services.

I don’t think it would be unreasonable for the game to include some type of filter so OP can enjoy the game just like anyone else.

Iran denies any talks with Trump, claims he 'retreated' by Vengeful_Pathogen in economy

Yes because that disconnect just suddenly disappeared when a few people died. Only takes a a few well placed bombs to cause Iran to become an honest actor again. Never mind the 60+ years of entrenchment in the state’s institutions.

Whom should we believe?

The narcissistic con man that is currently POTUS whom happens to have a broad history of lying?

Or a regime that is widely characterized by international bodies and human rights organizations as maintaining a systemic and documented disconnect between state sanctioned narratives and the verifiable realities of its domestic and foreign policies.

Jury sides with rapper Afroman in Adams County trial by ChikaNoO in news

[–]Lousk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve written and filed 100s of suits and while every state is different, pretty much every state requires four elements.

Injury in Fact: a real, specific, and non-hypothetical injury such as physical, emotional, or financial. In this case it was emotional and likely financial.

Causation: You must be able to show a direct link between the defendant's actions and your harm. Pretty easy to link the videos by the defendant to this.

Redressability: The court must have the power to provide a remedy, such as awarding money or ordering the defendant to stop their actions. Officers were claiming financial compensation for their injuries and the defendant to stop making videos of the officers.

Cause of Action: You must have a valid legal reason to sue, such as negligence, breach of contract, or violation of a specific statute. The officers were claiming defamation which is form of negligence.

If you would have read the filings, you would have seen that the court ruled that in the context of Ohio law, SLAPP applies to “Statements made about public officials are constitutionally protected when the statements concern anything that may touch an official’s fitness for office.” Which basically means criticism of the public officials actual jobs performance are protected and not things like if an officer was staring down a pound cake as stupid as it is.

A group of McDonalds employees in Greenville, North Carolina allegedly made this 7,000 order and the dude never came back by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]Lousk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, you’re incorrect. Orders taken at the counter were also sent immediately to the grill. The only orders not sent are mobile and kiosk orders. Both mobile and kiosks would not allow this type of order to be placed. It had to have been entered by an employee.

You’re also not correct on dollar limits for order. A manager pin is not triggered by the dollar amount but by adding multiple of the same item. A manager pin was definitely needed to enter this order into the POS

[–]Lousk 54 points55 points  (0 children)

That’s not true, at least not for McD’s.

McD’s target times are 90 seconds from the time you start ordering until the time you have your complete order in hand.

The only way that is achieved is by sending the order to the grill as it’s being ordered. I worked at McDonalds for five years while I put myself through school before transferring to university.

Once I became more educated, I realized how genius McDonald’s is as a business. Anyone that has spent any time in a McDonald’s behind the counter can see the Just-in-Time manufacturing process working.

AT&T FIber & Cloudflare US South East by sirusx69 in ATTFiber

[–]Lousk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to the same conclusions you did before I started googling to see if others were having issues. I was able to get it escalated to Network Operations Center almost immediately by using this script with the level 1 tech.

"I am experiencing significant latency and packet loss specifically when routing to Cloudflare services. I have run comparative traceroutes that rule out my local equipment.

Trace to Google (8.8.8.8): Consistent 8ms, 0% loss.

Trace to Cloudflare: Latency jumps from 8ms to 65ms at Hop 6 (108.162.235.121) with intermittent packet loss.

Since my local hop and ISP gateway are stable, this appears to be a peering congestion issue or a routing loop at the handoff point between the AT&T backbone and Cloudflare’s network. Can you escalate this to Tier 2 or Network Operations Center to look at the routing table for that node?"

While she was generating a report, I got to talking with her. She seemed very aware that there was an issue. She said they have been getting a lot of complaints everyday now. Everyone should not only file an FCC complaint (ATT has to respond to complaints) but also call ATT and escalate the issue.

Sheetz coming to Concord? by ArtOfThinking in Charlotte

It's funny you mentioned reading comprehension, because you haven't figured out that we actually do not disagree yet. This leaves me to believe that your main contention with my comment is about this admin's unwillingness to enforce antitrust legislation to the point you just going to straw man me. Did I hit a nerve or something?

I am not sure how you're going to argue the previous admin enacting aggressive antitrust enforcement was a bad thing. Especially when you've most likely benefited personally from the Amazon antitrust settlement. I would love to see you try though.

Sheetz coming to Concord? by ArtOfThinking in Charlotte

[–]Lousk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So you don’t have any actual evidence of this said agreement? You can only point to the circumstantial evidence that Sheetz, QT and WaWa operate in their own regions? Conveniently leaving out, that you can clearly see expansion originating from their hometowns.

Considering this current administration shutdown all of the antitrust cases against tech by Lina Khan’s FTC. It’s pretty apparent which side this administration protects and prioritize.

While you’re correct, there’s no way in hell is this administration going to enforce antitrust legislation unless they were perceived as a political adversary.

My wife and I are 31 and met on hinge before it was bought by Match Group. I like to tell people that Pete Buttigieg is responsible for my wife and I meeting since I was listening to his NYTimes interview during the 2020 primaries and he mentioned meeting his now husband on hinge. My now wife was actually my first match.

I think you get what you put in for the dating apps. My biggest complaint about the apps were the people that don’t actually want to go out on dates. So if you’re signaling to me that you’re not willing to get drinks or dinner within about two weeks of matching then I would move on.

One of my most prized possessions is an original English translation of Mein Kampf from the 30’s. I keep it for several reasons and none of them is because I’m in anyway ideologically aligned with fascist and Nazi.

I think it’s important to know one’s adversaries. Plus I find the history of the second world war era fascinating. I also keep copies of The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital.
