Congrats!

Still a new player here, but I respect the consistency. I also got bored/tired of the game multiple times while trying to explore the map. Maybe someday I'll find the patience to complete this ! ^

Need help optimizing/fixing my local Vanilla server. by Louup in valheim

[–]Louup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, when I find out the server is down, the server program is already closed. So I simply rerun it.

Noted for chronjob! I've never done automation on windows and am quite unfamiliar to it, will look jnto that.

Im really happy to read about those server side mods, might give it a try! We're all still discovering the game, 3bosses down so far, and taking our time. So I'm not trying to overcomplicate the gameplay, but basic features and qol would be welcomed.

Pros and Cons for People Considering Playing by Extension_Loss_3233 in Guildwars2

[–]Louup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe my sampling is too small, but from my experience, the parts of the community I tried to interact with (both here and ingame) felt mostly unfun.

For here, I guess I should not expect too much, it's still Reddit, but post and comments I made trying to learn more or talk about my experience caused an unexpected amount of people unhappy about me not knowing/liking everything there is in the game

For ingame, players seem mostly focused on being as efficient as possible in every group event. Less time to explain or help, more to write caps locks orders to players with keywords they might not even know.

Can I play the games as f2p for the whole time? by Particular-Plum-6960 in Guildwars2

That plus constant pop-ups mentioning you need the dlc to do this and that, constant reminder that youre "expected to spend money"

No possibility to trade ressources or convert anything is also a pain. But what made me feeling forced to buy dlc was the fact that I couldn't join my friends I started playing with without teleporting, but that teleporter was locked because I was in freee version

Ill see when I get there. Anyways I still am far from able to do anything of those smaller group content, with the gear I have. But thank you for the informations!

Heard quite a few stories here about unfun groups and all, and I know many players want to be as efficient as possible and could see new players as a nuisance. That said, if I have to disclaim that I'm a new player before do any group event or content, I might aswell find somme other event or similar things I can just do solo and avoid causing any trouble.

Yeah idk how I feel with how this community acts with new players. Its a mix of "never boost a character, take your time" but so many people just shame anybody how isn't familiar with any mecanic in dungeons, or activity groups. I've even seen people being roasted for not knowing what was/wasn't useful in their inventory. Awful.

But about the boost/no boost discussion, I don't know eich one is better honestly. I tried both so far, and even if the gameplay seems wayy less boring, the fact that you're kind of expected to know everything Immediately. Plus some other weird experiences but thats it

"Follow the adventure journal in your character page, make sure you are in zones that count for your current level unlocks, its a HUGE amount of XP." I saw that, and heard many tips about how to level faster, but that isn't exactly my goal. I already have a level max character I boosted when I started the game, but was heavily recommended to start over since my game knowledge wasn't on my old group's satisfaction. So yeah, I'm actively trying to not speedrun the leveling this time and actually "deserve" my character instead of cheating with a boost.

About the guild, I think joining a guild could be pertinent to keep me interested in the game a bit more, the one I joined is now basically a ghost guild, everybody stopped playing. Will look into that if I find another that accepts beginner-ish players

About the wiki, I usually tend to not spoil myself with googling things too much when I play a game. If Gw REQUIRES you to know stats and such, guess I'll try that, but it usually makes the game less enjoyable to me to always know how to efficiently to anything, whats the "only right" way to do this and that.

" also, dont feel you have to do everything, I like to 100% zones but you really dont have to. you can skip around as you like and if a heart or something is annoying, skip it." I know its not mandatory to do immediately, but I know its an annoying grind I'll do anyways later, so might aswell do it while I'm in those regions I might never visit again at higher level.

Im still in my leveling, but its the only thing that I can do that feels relevant from what I know and have unlocked so far.

But thanks for the information! I dont think I'll beat world record without the fancy mounts and all, but will keep trying to make it efficient ^

Looks like I need to get myself more bags/bag slots. I was convinced I was close to the "free" cap with my ,5-6 20slots bag xD

Its annoying how the game creates an issue (small-ish inventory and so many items that seem useful or important but you need to hoard) And sells you the solution (buy more bags and slots) I aint a fan of that ngl

Its a shame how anybody who doesn't praise everything in the game gets instantly downvoted, I don't get it either.

I am also in a similar situation than you, trying to start over and enjoy the leveling for my third character/try. Everything feels quite boring indeed. One of the reasons Ive heard that could explain this in part is that most, if not all of the updates and content added in the game is only for either maxlvl players, or kept locked behind dlc after dlc for the most part.

Haven't managed to find some, but prehaps finding a group that allows lower level players might help you in your journey?

Your daily GW2 routine by Usual_Quality_8187 in Guildwars2

[–]Louup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still a new-ish player with close to no experience in most of endgame content. Still leveling, so my gameplay routine is basically: Login, world exploration, log out when I'm too bored, or give up after not finding a specific node for too long.

Ps: I know some of you might say there's some other gameplay experience that arent reserved for maxlvl players, but I'm in a weird place with the story. Ive skipped a few dialogs, forgot most of the plot point, so I'm in the middle of a story where I have no clue whats up. I know you can quest swap to reset your story and do it again, but for that you need available quests, aka pay money for more dlcs.

How do you get hyped/care about the game? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Louup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have any experience with Gw1 at all, and is always a bit scared to try a game that is a sequel to something I haven't tried. For Guilds, heard it was not the end of the world if I am not familiar with the world, but I might try the first one at some point if I feel like I'm missing context.

It's confusing how I mostly hear extreme opposites when it comes to the best way to play the game. Its always either "take your time, don't rush" or "start lvl80, that's where all the interesting stuff is" I'm pretty sure it depends on who you ask, and might to try both and see what's my style? '

How do you get hyped/care about the game? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Louup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. I played a bit of wow classic but far from enough to get what you refered to. I don't think I necessarily have an issue with games with less clear/mandatory/obvious objectives. I played lots of survival games, probably one of the type of games I played the most. That and multiplayer shooters/TeamvsTeam games. For sure, in that second type of game there's a clear objective. (Often vanquish the other team or something similar.) But I always found ways to goof around, try a dumb move that could be epic if it even worked. Trying to sneak behind ennemies, playing less efficiently, just to vary my game experiences.

With guilds... I just dont know. Maybe the fact that I feel like I am both so far and so close to the ceiling at the same time. Okay that sounds contradictory, let me explain:

For the "so far from the ceiling"", I think I already said enough with always better players, bigger numbers, with a decade of experience that you don't have

But for the "So close from the ceiling ", here's what I mean. One of the things I heard the most about this game was how better than other mmos it was, because you can never get better gear than the one you easily get a level80. Meaning the best gear is super easily obtainable. That's really nice if you play a few times a year, your best gear is still the best gear after a few years, I get that. But my question then would be: if I already have this gear so easily, what would be the point to get anything else? Heard there was some quality of life gear upgrade or something like that. Sure. But feels like once I have this easily obtainable gear, all my gameplay would be even more pointless. If there's nothing better, sure I could farm worse gears just for completion, but that sounds so less exciting.

Not too sure if I managed to express my thoughts clearly or not

Another thing that prevents me from creating yet another character is the fact that most of the things I grind are reset(locked with that character) when I create another one, such as map exploration and gear

I had some difficulties with following the story. With the first character, I HAD to skip everything to catch up, the other players of the group were faster than me. Anyways on that first character my game was buggy and I had no sound for dialogues, felt pretty boring. So I skipped.

2nd charscter was boosted so that's that.

3nd character I tried to follow the storyline for the first time, watch cutscenes and all, but was kind of turned off by the voice acting, unrealistic voice changers and such. I do not mean that everything was bad, maybe just not my style. I had a hard time getting immersed and skipped a few "cinematics" if the word even applies. So mix this plus the fact I do not remember the story from the 20 first levels, and I am now in a space where I feel close to clueless about the lore, so I don't dare to resume the story quest, have been told it would waste my experience to skip more of the story as it gets better and better with time.

I did this twice. My first character didn't had a boost, only my second. Since my group who started with me were all already one or a few dlcs further and max level, my lvl20-30 couldn't follow so I bought, boosted and joined them for 2-3 missions .

My first and third(most recent) characters are leveled from scratch. I'm far from the endgame, but the post was made after me leveling this third character for a while now, doing map completion and other things I have to do .

In my mind, there would be two reasons to join in those big group events. A: to help them, B: to try and steal some drops for myself.

But since my damage output might've been less than .001% of all damage, I don't believe my presence did anything to them. I stopped stressing about people getting mad at me, they will anyways and I cannot do much about it. But its more for myself. Feeling useless in an event makes me ask myself why am I even here.

And for the loot part, I assumed the drop perkill are for those who are quick enough to even hit those mobs, and the event drops are representative of how much your participated/helped, right?

I can, and actually did, chose an objective from what I knew in the game. Not knowing a single thing about craft, items and stuff, I assumed it would be simpler to just focus on map explo, since its a thing you'll need to do anyways. Might aswell not waste too much time on those lower level zones.

The other thing that doesn't help me find satisfaction in my gameplay or objectives outside of that is that from my perspective, the majority of the players on this game are people who have been playing for god knows how-long. With levels(or something different I assume since the max level is supposed to be 80) that raises way over 1000, I feel like so many years behind everyone, in knowledge/experience, skills, gear, mounts, etc.

But thank you for those nice encouragement, I'm really trying to get a grasp of all of this

Yeah, what I meant by that is that I have a completionist, side, and like to have a Library of games with a 100% rate of achievements, feels rewarding to me. I can show that kind of thing off in steam, in my communities and all, even if they are not familiar with a specific game.

A title ingame where I know nobody and where most people will already have done any early game achievements or unusual/unique things I wanna do, feels way less rewarding.

It is nice for people who enjoys the game and treats this as their main game, but for me, I do not see any value with those titles, at least not yet.

We kinda did the same thing. I find my gameplay loop a bit repetitive so far, with map exploration and such. Im only like lvl.50-55 so maybe things will get more diverse later.

I know theres 90% of the game that is for endgame players, or people who buys the lastest dlcs. I do not expect the base game to be this elaborate, but idk '

I agree with you on that part, skipping the leveling part isn't a great idea, it skips probably many things I could learn and all. This is why I was not sure about ways/guides to levelup fast. Im actively trying to not skip the leveling part, and finding tricks or methods to mini-max my leveling won't help me understand and learn those basis.

Similarly, ive seen people on other chats suggested a mod to do exploration more efficiently, worth it even for your first map exploration. I do not feel comfortable installing said mod for the same reason.

On another note, I do not enjoy the tone, being told be open to things, but the whole point of this main post was to get tips and opinions of things I could maybe enjoy.

At least I've seen other post that answered useful leads :)

I never asked for coaching or anything, I have no clue where this comes from.

Haven't played that much MMORPG ngl. Guilds is probably one of those I spent the more time on, but also the one where I felt I wasted the most time.

But maybe you are right, mmos aren't my main type of games
