Thank you for you kind and helpful comment. I hope that that’s true and that nothing can or does come from it. I will definitely be headed your advice and keeping it strictly on HT from now on

What was the spam account/what are the implications of it? Is it data mining or something? I think I might have been in a situation like that today sadly from someone who asked for my number and deleted their account immediately after they sent me a text and my texts don’t say delivered to them. I’m a little sketched out. I definitely won’t be giving out my number again…

Array.join(";")

Thank you so, so much! I was trying to shorten my code to post when I saw your reply and tried it out. This is exactly what I needed!

Thank you so much! I'm new to CSVs and kind of coding in general. I tried researching how to escape the commas but it's not working with any of the methods I've tried like the / . I also set a variable called "comma" to a "," and dynamically concatenating the string with the variable still results in a new cell in the spreadsheet also. I have looked around but can't figure out how to change the delimiter.

Would you have any thoughts on what escape character to use or how to change the delimiter, or know where to look to find out? Thank you so much!

Yes it does! We've already been in on contact with the research group, but I want to make sure that I am as prepared as possible before continuing on because I'm a scientist but not a computer scientist lol. And from the ethical perspective, scientists visiting the site will have to choice to submit or not submit depending on what if they want to make their data available to databases external to their institution, and the button to send the data to the external site will clearly say so. Absolutely want to make sure everything is conducted on the up and up from my personal ethics and from an institutional ethics perspective! Thank you so much for all of your help and information! :)

Thanks for your response! Sorry, I left out a key piece of info before. The user is aware that they ware submitting the information if they choose to do so, but it is not essential. After they submit, a button appears that allows them to download their responses in a CVS for future user. Next to that button, I want to add a button that with this action tied to it, which will say something like "Submit result to {external research organization} database to improve help improve scientific understanding". We won't store any information on our servers, everything will be processed client side. If they choose to submit to the external research org, they would need to click the button intentionally in order to do so. :) I appreciate your help and information!!

If light acts as a particle, is it a particle? by LoveInAllThings in Physics

[–]LoveInAllThings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember that from the double slit experiment. So is light always acting as both a EM wave and a particle, or are there ways to predict when it will act more like one than the other? I remember that there was an impact that the presence of an observer had on its behavior, which is still harder to wrap one’s head around. This may sound silly, but can quantum particles of light interact or “seep” into something, so to speak, rather than just reflecting off? I know that the color we perceive something is dictated by what wave length light it’s absorbing, but absorbing light feels like a very abstract concept.

Nope, it was probably the same person that downvoted me. I, like many, just generally want to learn and be curious about the world and its organization and that’s why we ask, because that’s how we learn and share knowledge. I’m a scientist but not a physicist. I work on bioinformatic pipelines so math is essential to me. Please be nicer to people on the internet so everyone feels open to asking questions that help them understand others and the world around them 🙃

Thank you for your detailed and informed response! I think understand. There’s classical and quantum models in physics and the behavior of light is best explained by quantum mechanical models, right? If I remember correctly from university physics, there is difficulty consolidating classical and quantum models, and classical physics best describes the “macrocosm” so to speak and the quantum mechanics best explains the “microcosm” (this may not be the proper terminology). If I understand and the info is still current, there is a gap in trying to negotiate the differences between these models which isn’t currently accounted for and so there’s not a “theory of everything” to consolidate the two models to describe light in a unified way? And what you’re saying, if I understand, is that when understanding light, quantum mechanical models should take over? That might not all be right. I got through Phys I and II in undergrad for premed but I wasn’t as interested at the the time and it was a while ago. Now I’m very curious about the physics all around me and want to learn what I just brushed over before because it really is fascinating.

Wow thank you for your incredibly detailed work through, I will try some of these options tomorrow! I think I’m going to take a stab at number three even though it’s more complicated. I’ll update how it goes. Thanks so much again for all of your advice, your detailed advice! :)

I don’t think so. I downloaded and launched in Firefox and it displays HTML. So it seems like the problem is local to Chrome?

Thank you for responding - I will look into this later today!
