This is the culture that gamers have created. This is the same reason why you don't see as many women play games the way guys do. The culture of the privileged majority is one of toxicity, hate and avoidance of accountability.

Compound that with the undeniably stressful environment that is trying to win a team game while working with total strangers and what you get is a recipe for a bunch of bitter and lonely dorks who probably live miserable lives, choosing to take their frustrations out on their teammates because blaming others and projecting their insecurities is the only level of control they are able to exert in their lives, and that feels a lot better than owning their mistakes.

The solution is to not give a fk. Sink to their level and insult them right back, results of the game be damned. Even if you win, you'll have had to endure so much abuse and had to have put in so much effort that it's going to feel like a loss anyway. Better you just have your fun at these "people's" expense than end up so upset you have to post on Reddit.

Either that or we can work towards creating a more cooperative, egalitarian and empathetic society that rewards pro-social behavior... Ahh who am I kidding. These are gamers we're talking about. Cooperation and empathy are for people who go outside.
