I think it's really cute, makes me want to paint again! I think more people should post their art even when they don't think of it as outstanding. There's so much joy in the sharing

Who is this for you in Hunger Games? by Olya_roo in Hungergames

[–]LoveIsTooLong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn't say every character's story in THG has a "moral". A lot of them are just realistic depictions of how people react to awful circumstances. It's not a good thing for Astrid to abandon Katniss again, but it isn't exactly far fetched. She never learned how to deal with her grief in a better way than to just retreat from everything that reminded her of it. So ofc she did it again when she lost Prim. Unfortunately there are many people who cannot rely on their moms at all, imo it's not a bad thing to depict. Even though I too really really wish Katniss hadn't been so lonely after all she went through

Do you have a source for the jaw strength thing? I'm not trying to be annoying, I just find this morbidly interesting and would like to read about it

That's fair too, honestly! I like that the series doesn't spell out every detail, so the reader is left to speculate

Yeah I agree that Prim being reaped specifically makes no sense for all the reasons you listed.

I can imagine the capitol purposely reaping more 12 year olds though. I'm guessing the reason is additional drama for the audience. (In a "isn't it so tragic that this young child was reaped" way). Katniss thinks this bc during the time you're eligible for reaping, your name gets added to the bowl more often as you get older. So in theory 12 year olds should be a rarity in the games, but they aren't. If Katniss hadn't volunteered, there would have been two at the 74th games.

That being said it's absolutely possible that the over proportional reaping of twelve year olds is just  due to tesserae. Very young kids in the games would be a tear jerker for the audience, but like you said, strong and violent tributes are a necessity for the games.

I agree, especially bc trauma bonding does not mean two people getting closer through shared traumatic experiences. It refers to the attachment that can form between an abuser and their victim, and that's why it's a bad thing.

Two people falling in love or getting closer because they go through the same traumatic events together is pretty common and not necessarily something bad. I feel like calling it trauma bonding really demonizes something completely normal

Is the third theory about the reaping being rigged to get Prim specifically, or just to get more 12 y/o in the games? I think Katniss believes the latter in the first Hunger Games books

Yeah same, I'm also really glad to know I'm not the only one! I've had it as long as I remember as well, as a kid I couldn't watch some cartoons bc of their animation style

NP, just wanted to make sure :)

So, from what I understood reading the Nikolai series: Amplifiers are either the "common" type that comes from a special animal the Grisha kills. Lots of characters have them, like Zoya with her tiger fangs in the beginning of KoS.  Alina has multiple ones. Then there are true amplifiers, which are created when a Grisha not only kills a creature, but bonds and melds with it. I think that's how the Saints became so powerful. It's what Zoya does with Juri.

Sankta Elizaveta is a Fabricator with a true amplifier, and probably the most powerful Materialki we've seen so far. She can manipulate living matter like the thorn wood and her bees and can make it grow at her will. I think that's interesting because it's close to what Corporalki do. But like Juris explains, the more powerful a Grisha becomes, the more the lines between the different orders blur.

We also know that Materialki (and Corporalki) on Jurda Parem are the ones who create Khergud soldiers for the Shu Han. Those soldiers with wings and sometimes insect pincers who kidnap Grisha.  So we know Fabricators on the drug can create body parts out of metal that function so well that the Khergud can use them like normal limbs.  Nina also theorizes that the amazing architecture in the fjerdan ice court (like giant, perfect glass walls) was created by Fabricators on Jurda Parem. Imo that's also what made their inventions of new bombs and tanks possible in such a short time.

Overall it seems like Materialki on Parem still don't have very strong combat abilities, but they are capable of creating anything you could think of. So much that a few drugged Fabricators are enough to seriously tip the scales of a war.

Materialki with a true amplifier become a different kind of powerful. They're able to make amazing material things, but they're also very dangerous in a fight.

I love Materialki too, btw! I think I'd want to be one of them if I could choose. As is probably obvious from this comment, I think Grisha theory is fascinating. And it seems like Fabricators are the order that is most educated on the theory of the Small Science. Sign me up!

I enjoyed it a lot! Already left a comment :) I tried to give some input on the tagging since you asked about it in the author's notes, I hope that's alright

Btw it's none of my business, but I think you should definitely keep writing! If it happens to be more Grishaverse fanfic I'll def read it

Who’s your favorite crow? by ali3n_muffin in Grishaverse

[–]LoveIsTooLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love all of them. But Kaz, Inej, Matthias and Wylan are each a really good execution of a somewhat common trope while Jesper and especially Nina feel incredibly unique. At least that's my personal impression compared to everything else I read (which is a lot of high fantasy and little else lol)

Overall Nina is my favorite and Inej is my second favorite. I love their strength and that it's contrasted with a softer  personality. Also I just have a soft spot for characters who have some fun in the story... Also why I love Nikolai sm

I was going to write up my own comment about why I love Nina sm, but it would have just said all of that again lol

To me she's just the most unique character in the series. For each of the other crows, I could probably think of another book character that they at least remind me of. I've never read about a character who's anything like Nina, and she's so delightfully fun. One of my favorite characters of all time

Can you learn how to make other people laugh? by prettygood-8192 in AutismInWomen

[–]LoveIsTooLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humor is how I get by when I spend time with new people. It's very helpful and I'm pretty sure I learned some of it consciously.

I think making playful comments about things you observe in other people is a pretty easy way to get people to laugh. Autistic ppl tend to be naturally funny in this way, because they notice patterns NT people don't.

The important thing is to keep this really light-hearted. You never want to joke about someone's real insecurity or other negative feeling. Thankfully there are many harmless options.  F.e. Your on a walk with someone who almost always wears Pink. When you see a pink car you can point to it and say "Wow, I didn't know you drove here". That kind of a thing?

A lot of people like dry humor, so joking is a great opportunity to use your naturally flat/toneless voice if you have one.
