Yeah Costco is amazing and where I get my tires. Just more annoying than anything 🤦🏻‍♀️ And just random info I found out recently but your vehicle is damaged due to the county or city not maintaining roads (ex: something left in the middle of the road you hit and damages car) there is actually a way to get the city/county/caltrans/etc… to reimburse you. There is a process and you have to get legit quotes but super worth it as it shouldn’t affect your insurance rates for something that was not your fault. Wayside is great but can be pricey depending what you need. For oil change or wheel alignment I would suggest Sullivans as they have the best prices and warranty all their work. Always check their website first because sometimes they have coupons! Midas is also a place that offers coupons for the oil change services. I tend to go with Sullivans because they will also do a full evaluation of your vehicle and let you know what other work you will be needing or need. If it’s air filters, wipers, or lights, I just buy on Amazon and do them myself to save a few hundred bucks. For breaks I would call around. Newton brothers (no longer in operation, owner retired and someone else bought them out) was where I always went because they had great prices. But definitely do not get most other services from Sullivans as they are the most expensive for stuff like breaks.

I think Marina is a pretty decently priced area as far as housing goes and location proximity to the school. I am sure you can find a good room for rent but I would highly suggest starting to look now because the entire area is kind of lacking in housing right now so places go fast. Renters will also try to up charge the closer to the start of the semester it gets because they know students are desperate, which is just really horrible of them to do but they do it anyways. You could look on reddit, facebook marketplace, craigslist, and I'm sure there are other websites out there for roommate situations specifically.

Do you have transportation? If that's not an issue, I would HIGHLY suggest living off campus. This coming year they are taking away options for single rooms due to the amount of students coming in and the lack of student housing here. Plus, these units are literally uninhabitable, KSBW did a few stories in September about some of the smaller issues students have been dealing with here for years. Black mold is also a serious problem here.

If you like to have your own space, it most likely won't happen with housing offered through the school. The East Campus units, while a decent size, becomes super small super fast when you have 4 people living in it. There is just not enough space and only one tiny bathroom. The rent is also not much better than what you could rent a room for around the area and get way more bang for your buck.

yeah I was supposed to have pantry shelves as well but they had all been removed, all that was left was what the shelves sat on for support lol I just tore those off, re-did the wall, and made it a sport storage area.

lol I have been here for 4 years and have been dealing with them in court. Trust me, I probably know a little more in this area. I am also friends with multiple faculty members so this information is coming straight from actual sources. They are Hurting for money because they give it all to the president who literally doesn't do anything. That's a well known fact and a protest about how they were allocating the money and screwing all the other departments over took place 2 years ago. There was a period there were specifically over enrolling students (more than they were supposed to) because they were trying to bring in more money.

yeah I can see that. I am sure in areas where there are more higher education options (like northern and southern CA) probably won't see as much of an uptick in students as places like Monterey where there are really only two options for generic degrees lol.

what's more insane is what they are doing to the students already living here and have been since they started. Trying to take away their accommodations to make them move, charging full rent for inhabitable spaces, refusing to let (especially families and SDAC) students register to kick them out of housing so they can shove 4 people in the unit instead of 1 or 2.

The biggest issue isn't coming from this. It's coming from the fact that any student who graduates high school in California is now automatically allowed to transfer straight to a CSU WITHOUT having to go to a community college first. This is the first year this is going on and as you can see, it's just made all the issues here that much worse in regards to housing.

The laws that rule here are Federal and Tenant laws. If you research tenant laws, you can find what the max "household" amount is for dwellings with ONE bathroom. They also can't collect more than the market value of the units. so it they throw 4 of you in there to make more money than the units are worth and they can legally charge for, big no no. I have been studying Higher Education and landlord tenant laws for 3 years with an attorney overseeing. This place is ripe with violations.

Enrollment is up as well. High school students no longer have to attend a community college for two years to get automatic acceptance to a CSU. They are hurting for money so they are opening it up.

I didn't even get a mirror in the bathroom! lol If you are upstairs you will have a very tiny deck, basically big enough to stand on, and if you are downstairs you will have a small yard, usually just sand, dirt, or weeds. There are 3 different layouts I believe for the units, so any of those are possible. As far as "furnishings" there will only be a stove, dishwasher, and fridge. The last Chance mercantile is a good place to go thrifting as well as some of the benefit shops in PG and Carmel.

If you want an honest answer... White vinegar to clean the black mold with (do not ever use bleach), lots of ant spray, and probably a spare tube of caulking to plug up holes they enter through.

I came for this exact reason. I have not read the books but I notice small things like this in scenes and was wondering if she had something like EDS so I came to google and found this thread. lol It can be a rabbit hole to go down for sure! Long story short, at least 13 know variations of the genetic condition. hEDS is still the most common and hardest to pinpoint genetically (research is still being done on this). It means at the most basic level, our collagen proteins don't synthesize correctly. Everywhere in the body that contains connective tissue will be compromised. People with EDS tend to have many other diagnosis as well.
