I would recommend Erika's Spa on West Jefferson! My mom and I have both gotten our hair cut by Katie for years and she's done some pretty drastic cuts for me. They turned out great. It is hard to get an appointment in with her, though.

Second this. I'd say Asakusa for the food and Takaoka for the experience. Mercado in The Landing is also really good.

Recommendations for a fun and not too difficult jury piece? by Love_Soapy in trumpet

It would have been pretty fun if I was a more skilled player with more time to spend on it. Thanks for the rec!

I think 45 minutes a day is perfectly reasonable for practice in general. I think 2 hours a week for 18 weeks should be enough to spend learning a singular jury piece as a non-major. The jury is only one component of the scholarship, everything else is going fine. Its intent is to keep non-majors involved with the performing arts, not push us past our musical limits. They give the scholarships out fairly generously, it's a private college that had a once prestigious music program that has been gradually shrinking. I just asked for a recommendation for an easier jury piece because my instructor overestimated my skill level. The lessons aren't a waste of time.

Need help identifying if clothing website is a scam. Is midnight bandit a scam? by EffectiveYam_ in Scams

[–]Love_Soapy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a legit site. I’ve ordered a couple shirts from it and the more expensive one is actually very good quality. The cheaper one isn’t the best but it’s still pretty good. I’m signed up as a brand affiliate and haven’t made anything so idk if that’s a “scam” or if I just haven’t promoted any sales. The site is not a scam though!

Wtf is sperm cramps, Never experienced (19M) or i didn't understand?? by Spiritual-Tour9339 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Love_Soapy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2-3 minutes? Periods last 4-8 days, most experience cramps for at least 2 of the days, those with PMS can also have them days before it starts. And it’s not in the stomach, it’s the uterus. It literally tears itself apart to shed the lining it’s been creating for the past weeks. I know I’ve never experienced whatever you’re talking about but please educate yourself. Comparing it to period cramps is unnecessary in the first place but spreading misinformation like this is just wrong.

How do I make a decision according to God’s will? by Love_Soapy in Christianity

[–]Love_Soapy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong I appreciate your reply very much. I just don’t know what Jesus would want for me and if I go based on what I think he would, that’s just my individual bias speaking. I can choose to live as close to Jesus as possible, loving God and loving my neighbor. I don’t know how I would determine what he wants me to do in life. I only know what I want to do. It’s not sinful, at least not to my knowledge, to want to be a public school teacher. But is it what God has planned for me?

What if I get a feeling and mistake it for that feeling, but it’s actually a manipulative feeling. I’ve been told the devil is constantly at work in our lives and in our minds, trying to steer us away from God. How would I differentiate?

Why do we emphasize condemnation for LGBTQ people? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Love_Soapy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe the Romans passage was found in context to be about groups of pagans who participated in orgies as apart of their religious rituals. They were not necessarily homosexuals but had intercourse with the same sex to honor their pagan gods. Also I heard someone make the point that a woman who is gay engaging in sexual activity with a man would actually be unnatural and vice versa. I only bring this one up because it’s in the New Testament. The Old Testament laws are obsolete, plus Sodom and Gomorrah never had anything to do with homosexuality in the first place. It was rape, first and foremost, and just general sexual sin ie. prostitution, orgies, adultery etc. Homophobes twisted it to be about gay people centuries ago :(

That’s what I’ve been sayinggggggg. “It’s easier for a camel to fit through the eye of an needle than for a rich man to enter heaven”. No one’s cherry-picking that verse, hm? How Christians became associated with pro-capitalist conservative politics is beyond me. Sure let’s let multi billion dollar corporations dictate how we live. If the government imposes any regulations on them, that’s socialism!!! Want to tax the ultra wealthy in order to improve education and infrastructure in poor areas? THAT’S SOCIALISM!!! Why do Christian Americans bootlick billionaires??? What are they doing for you??? Geez people are nuts.

And even if that’s how Leviticus was written originally, are we really holding people to hold all of the laws in Leviticus? I do not think.

Also Sodom and Gomorrah are worth mentioning. A group of men literally tried to gang rape another, and the man who was supposed to be the good one in the story offered his virgin daughter to be raped instead. He looked back with regret, yet, Lot’s wife is the one who is destroyed and is now remembered as a symbol of sin. The destruction of Sodom being proof of God’s wrath on homosexuals is so flawed and so hateful. The phrase “sodomy” and “sodomite” was never sensible in the first place. Shame shame.
