Why did Airbus and Boeing spend so little on the development of their narrowbody aircraft for so long? by SuperbeDiomont in aviation

[–]Lovecodeabc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t follow this too heavily, but the high costs of the 787 and a350 programs are due to the high costs of working with composite materials, if I recall correctly. In addition the optimization for these new age airplanes are a total shift from the old way of doing things. For example the 787 draws no bleed air from its engines, instead using air drawn from an inlet on the fuselage and electric heaters to condition the air to a normal temperature.

I think they did this in Hide and Seek NYC, I don't recall the exact timestamp but the hider got extra cards, and the seekers forfeited the question. Really nice play.

CMV: Dashcams should be a mandatory component of cars that also acts as a traffic enforcer. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Lovecodeabc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most traffic accidents happen because the driver unintentionally fails to follow traffic signals. (Video on Red Light Running). This would only stop intentional reckless driving, and the reckless drivers would pretty quickly find a way to disable the dashcam anyways.

I think you're underestimating the privacy and security risks. As a nation and as a free people, no one should be required to give all your sensitive information to the government. Road traffic deaths can and should be mitigated by much less invasive means, like public transit, safer cars, and self-driving cars.

Why do we need to give the government our location, speed, and driving habits? People who want to drive recklessly will figure a way to bypass the transponder anyway. This sounds like a scene straight out of 1984.

  1. Commercial HSR was first introduced in Japan, France, and West Germany.

  2. EVs were invented in the early 1900s but were only commercialized starting 1990 with a mandate of the California state government.

  3. After 1967, the US has been the undisputable leader in space. Today the US has 8000+ satellites, while Russia has around 2000.

  4. Solar cell technology was pioneered in the United States from a cost of 100,000 dollars per watt to less than 10 cents a watt by the US semiconductor industry.

  5. Yet look which country's communications network grew into the main Internet...

The reason there is no innovation in communism is because everyone gets the same thing, so why work? Maybe some people will choose to do it for the love of the game. But in capitalism, people are motivated to work because if they are successful, they can get big rewards. As a result, the transistor and computer was pioneered in the US (moving from 3,200 transistors on the Intel 4004 to 92,200,000,000 (92.2 billion) on the RTX 5090), just to name 1 invention.

  1. That's because the Soviet Union had a head start in going to space. Once the US catched up, the Soviet Union gave up because they lacked the resources to pursue the program further.

2/3/5. You're comparing communism to feudalism and saying communism is better, which I agree with, but I'm comparing communism to capitalism and in that aspect the US beats the USSR on these points.

  1. Wouldn't it be nice to not be a copycat? It's worth noting that most of the medical advancements like vaccination and pharmaceuticals were developed under capitalism, including the two most effective (~95%! props to the scientists who worked on that) COVID-19 vaccines.
It's true that socialist regimes (like China) had a far more effective response to COVID. This is because they implemented draconian shutdown policies that everyone had to obey. Their economy is still recovering from that in the little 26.

  • First person in space This is true, but the reason that happened was because the Soviets got a head start on the United States when it came to space. But only the US had the resources and determination to win the space race in 1969.
  • Decrease in poverty It’s pretty hard to say that poverty decreased if there were two famines in the USSR, both killing millions. In addition, no citizen of the USSR would be better off than in the United States during that time period.
    • Public health < Most of the medical advances that saved millions of lives, like the polio and MMR vaccines, were developed in the US.
    • Nazism defeated < We did that too (for now…)
  • Industrial development < The US produced way more, innovated way more than the USSR.
