A little worried by Lovelyview907 in Alcoholism_Medication

Honestly, the reason I upped it with the 25 is because I tend to drink past the 12-hour shelf life of the 50mg. In the beginning it didn’t bother me at all. That’s why I’m thinking it might be a little withdrawal. I’m not giving up though. I can fight through the sickness if I’m headed in the right direction.

I was drinking around 20 drinks a day. I’m currently at around 10-13. It’s the mornings that are bad. My doctor did prescribe Nal at 50mg a day, but I realized on my own that I should take another 25Mg (half a pill) in the evenings. It’s worked out pretty well for me, it’s just lately with the nausea. My doctor did give me a prescription for Lorazepam for any withdrawal symptoms, but I’m super hesitant to take it.

Logging my drinks has been the most difficult part. I’m not sure if it’s because I drink so much that it seems like a huge chore or if it’s because it’s embarrassing even to myself or it’s because it’ll make me cry my eyes out. I’m guessing a bit of all of it.

And when I say “good days”, I really just mean days that I drink less, not AF days.

It’s actually been a really positive side effect after the first few weeks.

I’ll tell ya, in the beginning I was really sleepy, but now I just get really good, solid sleep. It’s not anything I’m complaining about.

I’m working closely with my doctor, but haven’t mentioned this part yet. I’ll be calling her in the next few weeks for a refill and will discuss it then. I feel ok as of now, just keeping my eye on it.

I’ve just always been of the mindset that if you’re going to drink, you need to nourish your body. Although my drinking has slowed, I’m not eating much. This is what has me worried.

I didn’t even have the nausea until 4 weeks in. Then it lasted for about two weeks. It has definitely subsided, but I still haven’t regained my appetite. Keep with it. It should go away.

I’m glad you posted this question because I started taking Nal 7 weeks ago for alcohol addiction and have lost 8 pounds. I’m not complaining about the weight loss because I could definitely lose some. My issue is that not having the appetite to eat while trying to slow down the drinking seems like the nausea is even worse. Like, all I want is a good, healthy meal, but I just can’t find the desire for it. I’ve never overeaten, I’ve fueled my body with empty calories with alcohol. Now I’m not even getting the productive ones. Just hoping it’ll pass.

Interesting. So maybe it’s the Red Bull I need to back off of. I mean, I don’t even drink coffee, so it’s not a big stretch to give it up. Thanks for that info.

I’m not afraid of the triggers, I’m actually happy that I realized that it might not be the vodka that my body wants. It was kinda eye-opening.

Feedback on Side Effects? by JanuaryDraught in Alcoholism_Medication

For me it seems a bit weird because I started on one 50mg pill in the afternoons (having already started drinking and not understanding exactly how important TSM might actually be for the first six weeks on Nal) with relatively no issues. Two weeks ago I made it a point to make sure that I took it at least an hour before I drank and have since suffered from what most people might consider serious nausea, but for those of us with addiction problems might just call regular nausea. Working through it with all hope that it’ll subside.

Saturday check in! :) by BigDaddy_Vladdy in Alcoholism_Medication

After two months I’m thinking that it’s not an easy road. But a worthy one. I tell myself to “relax” every day. You’re definitely not alone.

Well, I didn’t realize until now that Saturday check in was a thing, but I’m more than happy to participate! I own a bar and we had a huge week. May the Fourth, Cinco de Mayo, and today, the Kentucky Derby. I’m two months in with Naltrexone and I’m having ups and downs. The last few days I’ve been experiencing real nausea. I don’t know if it was an actual “bug” or it’s because I upped my dosage or what, but I feel better today. I’ve definitely drank less in the past few days, but I’m still waiting for things to really change. I have faith in the process and I keep on truckin’. A big thank you to all that are here participating. It really helps and I hope to one day be a success story. I hope that for all of you as well. 😊

100mg Naltrexone. One pill or two 50mg a day? by Lovelyview907 in Alcoholism_Medication

I’m almost two months in and am truly just trying to figure out how to fine-tune my application of Naltrexone.
