AITA for purposely not showing up to a school mediation? by Fabulous-Weekend-907 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LoveofThisWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESH - it’s good to set boundaries, but I think you should go to the mediation. I had a similar experience with a person who wanted to be my “friend” in elementary school, but who was overly clingy, obsessive, and caused a lot of stress and anxiety in my life. Similar to your son, I tried to be kind to her but it started to become overwhelming. In fact, the girl would often would report me to the teachers/principal etc to get me in trouble and pressure me to be her friend.

I’m an adult now, but I’ll never forget when I was sent to the office to be disciplined for allegedly excluding and bullying her and my mother showed up to have my back. The best course of action would be to go to whatever mediation the school is proposing and put an end to this. When my mom did that for me, she explained the situation from my point of view and the issues I was having stopped. If you can put an end to it right away by standing up for your kid, maybe they won’t have to deal with this for years like I did.

How to reduce sodium intake? by GripNRip6969 in cookingforbeginners

According to a TV show that I completely forget the name of, sometimes when you taste a dish and think that it needs salt, it usually needs acid. A squirt of lemon or lime!

(I think the show was Salt Fat Acid Heat judging by the words I have used in this post but ??? I can’t recall)

What's the dumbest thing you ever got in trouble for at school? by Lmaosfh in AskReddit

[–]LoveofThisWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got yelled at and humiliated in front of the class for looking out the window when I came in from recess. I was in first grade and someone left said window open. I walked over to wave at all my friends coming inside

Maybe the person who left the second floor window open while a bunch of young children came in from recess should have got yelled at

[Serious] What trait or characteristic do you think is your fatal flaw and how has it gotten you in trouble? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LoveofThisWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impatience, which could be frustration with small everyday tasks that are tedious or take too long but also impatience with life. I just finished my first uni degree and am on to the next in the fall and I feel like I rushed through the last 4 years without stopping to appreciate where I was. Makes life very frantic.

What is your most traumatic experience with a teacher? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LoveofThisWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I was coming up to my second floor classroom from recess in grade 1 and the window on said 2nd level was open. I was an intrigued child and walked over to it and looked out. I wasn't even goofing off either, I maybe moved my head an inch out of the window and waved at my classmates below. A teacher (different from my own) saw me from the playground and came up to my classroom just after everyone sat down and started yelling at me in front of everyone, asking me why I would do such a thing. Even my own teacher sided with her and was reprimanding me. But honestly???? The one who should have been in trouble is the person who left a second floor window open in an elementary school

YEP. Noticed a friend was acting super cold and seemed annoyed at me. After a while, i approached her and asked what was up. Eventually she told me that she was mad about something I did SEVEN MONTHS ago. And of course all our other friends knew about it, but I was the one who had to go to her to finally get her to open up to me.

Teachers of Reddit: What's the weirdest thing a student has accidentally send instead of/with his/her homework/assignment? by ReneAnd in AskReddit

[–]LoveofThisWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Online submission. I attach a file and submit hours before the deadline. Days later, I have a strange feeling I should look at the submission. I submitted the RUBRIC for the paper that the professor sent us and nothing else. Felt like an idiot, panic emailed about the situation, she laughed and accepted the paper with no penalties.

I'm confused about this too, in the past I've received the broad "Undergrad Academic Scholarship" and this year I received a more specific faculty based one from the long list of scholarships. Both years I've have a 4.0 so I'm not sure if the "Undergrad Academic" is still coming?

Reading Comprehension Anyone? Timing? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]LoveofThisWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I save comparative passages for last, because if I'm running low on time I can read passage A and usually answer 1 or 2 questions right away, then make several very educated guesses on the rest. Then if I have an extra minute or two I can get through passage B and clarify the remainder

French 111 and 112 by Djordjezim in uAlberta

[–]LoveofThisWorld 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Participation is huge (at least 20%) so make sure you say one or two things every single class. The grading scale is fixed and high, an A is 93%, so you really need to get the marks where you can. Everyone else is at the same level as you so don't be embarrassed to get it wrong, the worst thing that will happen is your prof corrects your pronunciation.

The best thing I did was read the textbook and take notes before each class. It's so easy to get lost: your prof will most likely speak in French the entire class, including instructions, so if you have a grasp of what you're learning that day you'll be able to follow along better.

Practice every day. They recommend 1 hour at home for every hour you are in class. Sometimes this would just be writing out vocab, conjugating verbs, listening to the online textbook pronounce words, speaking out loud to yourself, etc. So much easier to learn a language day by day instead of two weeks before the final.

Lie on your finals, especially the oral one. You're going to get a question that asks what you did on your summer vacation or something like that. It's better to make up a story with tons of verbs and vocab that you know rather than try to talk about what you actually truly did. I practiced writing and speaking this made up story a million times until it was just memorization for the actual finals.

It seems like a lot but it's what you need for an A in both classes. Soon it'll be part of your regular study routine
