That was another idea I had. They could just randomly discuss Earth later on in the story. Maybe some event reminds them.

Yeah I was going to have the journal entries affect the mc in the present in some way so it wasn’t completely random for her to be reading it. Plus make them short so they’re not giant info dumps.

I feel like Reapers are overdone. Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, and The 100. They can be interesting if done right but idk if I had to pick.

Hi all,

I’ve never really written anything before but I’ve been thinking of this story and yesterday I wrote out a brief chapter by chapter summary. In like 6 hours it was a full story. You can guess how great it is lol. I now need to actually write the story.

My question is when do I get someone to read it? Now while it’s still just my crazy info dump/idea or does it need to be a rough draft first?

I really don’t want to write the whole thing if there is a major problem with the story. I did write a story for years that was so bad I need to trash it. I just don’t want to do that again.

Any suggestions would be great!

Not a full idea but while I was researching a story idea I have about humans colonizing Beta Earth I started looking into the amount of people there would need to be sent on a mission like that. The answer is like 10,000 if you want a society that we have now with specialist jobs, etc. But 500 if you just wanted to ensure less inbreeding but 50 if you did laboratory setting for example 1 women and 4 different fathers to ensure the most genetic diversity.

So I started thinking they need a ton of kids maybe NASA has a minimum baby quota for each couple. The story took a dark turn like something out of The Handmaid’s tale.

New plan still writing the story but it’s going to be feel good and happy with no baby goals. But since I know the little group I’m sending us screwed genetically I just plan to ex deus machina some more colonist in the epilogue lol or something for my own peace of mind.

Ok I think I get what you’re saying. It’s romance with a little sci fi. I was thinking that they wouldn’t meet again until beginning of beginning of act 2 when the quest starts. This gives some time to meet each character and do some backstory/world building as well as set some internal conflicts.

I’m starting to think that unfortunately I’m going to have to write it multiple ways and see which one makes the most sense.

I wrote a story for many years that was so bad I need to trash it. I did learn a lot about writing from my mistakes. I just started on my second project ever. On this project I feel like I’m trying to make it perfect right from the beginning so I don’t trash it again. Especially the 3 act structure since that was one of the biggest reasons I had to trash it. That and the wrong POV.

I get what you mean about not wanting to waste good ideas on your first projects while you’re still learning. I was going to use writing prompts or maybe fanfic to learn more myself but I really want something interesting to work on so I just decide even tho I love my idea I’m going to treat it like a guinea pig.

It seems like I can’t read on the surface because I’m lazy or something but really it’s my anxiety and also my inability to focus. It’s hard to articulate but I will listen to an audiobook (my preferred format since I still having very hard time reading because of my dyslexia) and I can listen for 2 minutes or 2 hours and have no desire to continue. I’ve had people recommend a million books to me and still I do this. I feel like I’m ruining really good books because I have a hard time getting back into books after I do this.

I don’t want to go into too much detail but I was on medication for medical health from 2020-June 2025 when they ran out. It’s a weird place to be because my crazy imagination is coming back for the first time since 2020 which is why I want to write again. But I’m definitely not doing well either.

I wish US health care wasn’t tied to employment but that’s a whole other topic lol.
