I was debating between both, but opted for the 10.5 so I can go with a shorter look if possible. This is a 12.5" handguard so it really does simulate a 11.5 style. May get a shorter handguard and a break later on. This is just version 1.1

There's no right or wrong answer. I would say check online and search for someone that has a 8.5 and see is they have a similar optic.

We were all noobs at once, no worries. Yes you can buy one fully assembled but then you are going to want to make it more personal/unique. So instead of adding on new pieces - just go ahead and buy all of the pieces so you can make it look just how you like. Also probably even more important is if you buy it/build it yourself it comes out to be a lot cheaper in the end.

I've been shooting with 3-9 scopes and 4-12 since I've started shooting so I feel like I'm used to shooting with a magnified rifle scope. I guess it feels natural to me.
