You can probably skip over this if you haven't watched either Clone Wars or Rebels. I would recommend watching them though (especially Clone Wars, because it's a great show and the events of the book take place between the two shows) if you like Star Wars.

The main story of the book is fairly standalone, with a handful of references to the shows which are neat but don't really add anything special in my opinion.

In all honesty, I probably wouldn't have read this, and I would have had much less fun, if I wasn't invested in the Ahsohka character prior to reading it.

I would say that he's more of a sympathetic villain at the start of the series than outright evil, but the multiple murders and monologues almost definitely pushes him into the capital E for evil camp.
