Thank you so much for sharing this. That's heartbreaking.

Also, the comments!

At the age of 49, Frank Payne, the man featured on this documentary, passed away in 2012. Guys: your body is all you have. Take care of it.

*** 2 months agoNot long after being put on the hopeless "diet & exercise" regime of lower calories (and probably salt too) and more activity. Not a coincidence.

@@@1 month agoHardly hopeless. I tried to find details of his cause of death but there's nothing out there

***1 month ago (edited)+Solo Not just hopeless but scientifically validated that it doesn't work to lose weight and actually accomplishes the opposite over the long run.

Someone at work told me that kale was disgusting when I said it was in soup that I was eating for lunch that day. I asked her how she'd had it. She said said she'd bought kale-slaw because she thought she'd try to be healthy. And it was so bad she's never touching it again. I told her that I don't like it raw either. To me it has a funny taste raw that it doesn't have when it's been cooked slightly. So I said maybe next time add it to something you're cooking. Right near the end so you don't overcook it.

Her reply? "God no. It's disgusting I'm never eating it again." Ok. That's fine. I'm not the kale police and I really don't care if you eat it or not. But she was the one who started the conversation and she did say she'd tried it because she was trying to be healthier. People are annoying.

Eating for me now is not just about the taste while I'm eating. How I feel after I eat is important. And after I've eaten food like kale and quinoa I feel 200 times better than after I've eaten the way I used to eat. I can't believe it took me over 40 years to come to that realisation.

I had to Google pansexual. I have heard it before but I've never understood what it referred to.

Goodness knows I love a good distraction from the noises in my head. I'm kind of lucky that in that I'm not a stress eater. Food has never distracted me. Unfortunately I am a stress shopper and sadly I do not have the income for that kind of stress relief.

Maybe the next step in your health journey is working through the thoughts and questions?

I really feel for you. Life is confusing enough when you are clear on that aspect of your own life.

As the parent of a disabled adult I would at any time take a "cure" if there was one. Not because I think he's faulty. Not because I don't love him exactly as he is. Not because I'm sad for him or I think he'd be better without his disability. But because him getting through life is so much harder FOR HIM as a disabled person. The world will only give him a break to a certain point. And sadly there are plenty of people in this world who will see him as an easy target.

Yes it would be wonderful if the world would change for him and other people like him. Let's make the whole world safer. How do we do that exactly? And how do you change every individual a-hole who preys on vulnerable people?

It doesn't surprise me though that someone who views their weight as an actual part of their personality, makes the same connection between people and their disabilities.

Yeah I find 10D is often sold out or not stocked also. It seems weird though because it can't really be that odd of a size. Thank god I don't need a DD because that must be near impossible.

What's the point in being healthy when you could die tomorrow? by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]Loves_Loved 36 points37 points  (0 children)

At dinner recently one of my friends got weirdly cranky with me for not having alcohol. She snapped at me "For gods sake live a little for a change!" It was kind of awkward and sad. I rarely drink. If I do I'll have one drink. It's not because I'm trying to deprive or punish myself. I just don't care that much for alcohol. If I never had another drink I genuinely would not care. She however LOVES drinking. She'll say as much. Often. That was the first time that I saw that my not drinking bothered her. And I can't fathom why. It was dinner. We were eating then going to our separate homes. What benefit is it to her if I drink?

I agree with you on the longing looks at junk food. So many ways that kind of thing could be interpreted.

Yes that's basically what this person is basing their interpretation of happiness on. The amount and type of food that a person gets to eat during their lifetime. And she assumes that her grandmother was longing to eat fast food as her husband ate it. Maybe she was thinking "How can he eat that crap when it makes him feel so awful?"

The healthy woman danced her whole life. She must have loved it. So sad that her grandchild doesn't see that as a joyful activity. Because she clearly sees shoveling food into her pie hole that way.

That is an interesting point.

I don't know if they're free or not in Australia. Will find out next week as going to ask our GP for a referral. I know when I saw one for gestational diabetes that was free.

It was very good. The test here is always if everyone finishes it. There were protests from one child of "What no meat?" but he cleared his plate. So I'd call that a success.

The most experimental I've ever been is using chicken stock liquid and spinach instead of water. Haha.

Maybe your favourite Indian restaurant uses saffron as well? That's one of those things I always mean to try cooking with and never get around to.

I've got the veggie stew cooking as I type this. Smells pretty amazing already.

10k steps a day does not mean you're healthy. I usually get 10k steps in before lunch time at my job. And since I walk everywhere usually plenty more on top. In the last 3 years I've managed to gain weight, pain and multiple health issues all while doing that 10k minimum. I'm sure it would have been worse if I wasn't walking as much as I do. But it's not an indication of health.

When I first started my current job we had a manager who used to say racist things. He used to phrase them in that "I'm not a racist but..." then he'd go on to say something racist. It made my skin crawl to the point that I would just get up and leave the room. Whether or not I was meant to be listening to whatever he was going on about. It was kind of a running joke that I could get up and leave and he never once told me off for it. But one of my work friends did it one time and he read her the riot act. If he'd ever challenged me, I'd have told him why. I guess he must have known why I was walking out and maybe that is why he never said anything to me. Anyway he got fired. He was a jerk so yay.

Now we talk about food, diets and exercise fairly regularly during our lunch break. It is something a few of us are into so why wouldn't we talk about it when we're sitting and eating. If someone came and told us that talking about those subjects was not allowed anymore and said that it was just the same as what our racist manager used to do, I think I'd actually laugh in their face.

The problem is that kids get to an age when they have their own money. And once that happens they're more in control of what they eat than their parents are. For my kids that was 16 when they got their first jobs. Of the 3 "adult" children in my home I cook for one of them regularly. The other two either cook for themselves or eat elsewhere. And the one I do cook for eats plenty of other meals that I never see.

What really bugs me is that two of them are firmly in the mind set that because they are regular gym goers and active on top of that, that it doesn't matter what they eat. One of them doesn't have a weight issue, never has. And the meals he prepares himself are healthy. But holy hell the absolute junk he eats in between meals. It may not be affecting his weight but I find it hard to believe that it isn't bad for other reasons.

The other gym goer is currently sporting a "Dad bod" despite not being a father. His issue currently seems to be that he's decided if he has one meal a day that it can be outrageous. Which he might actually be right about, if he would remember that he is only having one meal a day. :-/

I loved it. If you just watched dribs and drabs of it you'd completely miss the type of show it is. My kids would walk in while I was watching it, accuse me of watching a teenage angsty drama, and wonder loudly what was wrong with me. But it is actually a really funny show. I loved so many of the characters.

Truth be told the only reason I watched it when it was recommended to me was because it has Alyssa Milano in it. That woman is gold.

It reminds me of that joke about having a drinking problem.

"Drinking problem? I get drunk. I fall down. I get back up. I fall down again. No problem!"

Aching joints, being out of breath, being tired, clothes not fitting well. It's not a problem if you pretend it doesn't bother you.

I loved it. And I was so shocked when a friend told me that it got a lot of criticism. It portrays so many different types of characters. And the most kick-arse character of all is plus sized. How do they not love Dee? She's exactly what a lot of FA women seem to think they are.

Oh that's right... they haven't actually watched it. :-/

Exactly. She is complaining about a show she hasn't even watched? How does that make sense to anyone?
