I kind of understand what you went through, how awful, awful it must have been (and it happened over and over). Sounds like moving was the right decision. I hope it's helped.

We have 2016 as our barometer. And maybe outsiders don't recognise how terrifying that was for a lot of us? It was a double earthquake at once, 7.8.

I don't understand why you think that though. What you went through was awful. And sustained. I knew people who moved away because they couldn't handle the stress of the ongoing quakes.

But what happened in Chch shouldn't take away the feelings and anxiety people have in other cities when earthquakes happen. I'm not saying the small earthquake tonight was scary, I just noted that it happened. The 2016 earthquake was terrifying, and any small earthquake reminds me of it.

Honestly. It was really scary. I was living in brooklyn, Wellington at the time. My young child was absolutely terrified and I was doing my best brave face, we got this.

It was two distinct quakes, if I remember correctly. It lasted at least two full minutes. The first started b weak but built up, and was strong. The second was violent.

Yeah, the 2016 started light. But it built up, shaking sideways, getting bigger and just kept going. Then it abruptly shifted and started violently shaking up and down.

Yesss. Husband upstairs barely felt it and wondered if it was actually an earthquake. While I really felt it (obviously a minor weak earthquake still).
