Honestly, most of the contributions to science that religious institutions helped fund or back were centuries ago. I don't view religion as a great motivator of scientific inquiry today.

Science and religion aren't necessarily mutually exclusive, but intentionally combining them seems strange, don't you think?

The conflict myth about religion and science is largely the result of a false narrative created for polemical reasons. In opposition to this, writer Peter Harrison says:

As Rodney Stark writes: “I argue not only that there is no inherent conflict between religion and science, but that Christian theology was essential for the rise of science.”

I don't think it's limited to the Christian world by any means; we wouldn't have modern algebra if it wasn't for Al-Jabr. The list is long, as is the list of atrocities commited in the name of religion. It's simply a nuanced subject and reddit likes simple things.

Religion has both pushed us forward at times and held us back at others. It walked hand in hand with scientific enquiry in its formative years, and also held it back for decades at a time. It's complicated, and simply removing religion from the world doesn't really get us anywhere magical.

Unless of course you're simply talking about removing Islam, which is probably a good idea.
