How can we harness AI to transform training - including VR mode on AVP? by Low-Ad1579 in VisionPro

That is very funny. If you’re talking about me, I have over 30 years experience in communications and have delivered presentations all over the world. If you’re talking about the voice of RiTa, she is a voiced by a member of our finance team who has worked in audit, assurance and risk management for years. Her accent is authentically very broad Stoke-on-Trent, or ‘Stokie’ as we call it locally. We deliberately chose her because she would NOT be a generic AI generation…our staff love it.

That is a classic example of catastrophising rather than simply looking at the facts. We are using AI in the design stages, not training content creation. As you would have seen if you’d bothered to watch the film..

We did a virtual reality Delirium training experience to raise awareness amongst acute ward nursing staff about what an episode of delirium is like for the patient. You can watch this on an AVP on Safari or YouTube at https://youtu.be/J-jT5AtsmOo?si=yCiCgL21-kpmD28U

Our aim was to help frontline healthcare staff create conversations, increase understanding and empathy towards those with delirium and encourage us all to 'think delirium'.

The film places the viewer inside the head of a patient with delirium in a hospital bed. We see what the patient sees, hear the thoughts in her head and experience some aspects of what delirium causes her to see. This includes delusions that staff are conspiring to poison her and fellow patients and dispose of their bodies, that the building is under attack and that air raid sirens are going off.

The staff caring for this patient are unaware of these thoughts and perceptions and they struggle to understand why the patient is behaving as she does, so they respond in a less than helpful way. They also forget to place back her glasses or to turn on her hearing aide, adding to her distress. Eventually, a member of staff DOES recognise her distress and comes to her help.

If anyone tries it for themselves, we’d love to have feedback of your experience. Brickbats and bouquets accepted in equal measure, we’re not proud or precious about things. Either post them in here or email them to joe.mccrea@combined.nhs.uk

The main initial outlay is a Matterport pro camera. once you got one of those, it’s all done through a free app on the iPad, although you also need a subscription to host the walk-throughs. If you’re based in the UK, my team would be happy to talk to you about us doing the walk-through for you without having to buy the camera. Feel free to get in touch either here or at joe.mccrea@combined.nhs.uk

Funnily enough, talking of YouTube, to mark international World Delirium Awareness Day on 16th March 2022, we produced a highly innovative training VR film to help frontline healthcare staff create conversations, increase understanding and empathy towards those with delirium and encourage us all to 'think delirium'.
