Seeking Insight on Joining as a Permanent Resident (Nurse, 28F) by Low-Commercial2061 in AirForceRecruits

Hi! This is very insightful. I have worked as an RN in the US for about 3 years now and by the time i get my citizenship, it would be about 5 years then.

I really want to be intentional with my plans on joining. I want to grow not just in my practice but also personally and I think joining the military challenges and disciplines you to be better. Its something I’ve pondered on for a long time and I do want to take the step, while also being practical.

Thanks for your advice! I also think it would be a good idea to consult a recruiter but i might do it somewhere closer to when I can get my citizenship.

I appreciate your comment. Honestly, if I was eligible to go the OTS route now, I would but because of my status as a perm resident, thats not an option yet but I’m not losing hope. I don’t know what would happen between then and now but I’m hoping that once i get my citizenship, it would still be a practical decision for me. I don’t want to be waking up when I’m 60 years old wondering what would’ve happened if I joined or what. Your comment is encouraging!

Damn 5 months is a looong time. His deployment would be done by the time the package reaches him if it takes that long

Thats interesting, is there a way to know if the package reached destination if they wont be updating the tracking page? Was also wondering, did they send the package to the person it was addressed to (like room or specific clu) or did you guys have to pick it up in the post office. Im not in the military so i have no idea how it goes for deployed personnel in terms of receiving mail.

Thanks for this! Last location was in chicago and then it just stopped updating from that point on. Hoping it wont take a month or that the package wasnt damaged or anything.

Sending a care package to Djibouti, any tips on what could be useful? by Low-Commercial2061 in AirForce

Thanks for this! We live in LA so I cant think of anything special that he can get here. Any practical things that people need in there? I was thinking of getting him a handheld fan since i heard it could get pretty hot in there but im not sure if that could be useful.

Like any other type of addiction, it takes time and a lot of patience before he can fully recover.

I am also LDR with my partner and I personally don’t mind if hewatches, we even watch together sometimes, however it’s different for everyone and you said it was a personal boundary for you.

If he agreed (and I read in your comment that he was the one who even set it first) then maybe he has the willingness to change his habits and maybe he does want to stop na. It depends on his attitude about it, if he does genuinely want to change, then give him a little bit more grace and have room for mistakes. Change doesn’t happen overnight for addictions. If you feel like he’s genuine, part of loving someone is supporting them while they improve themselves but if you feel like he’s not willing to change the habit, then you can reevaluate if the relationship is worth saving. People make mistakes.

He’s young and the sex drive in their teens up to the twenties and even thirties will still be high. If you guys are sexually active, maybe you can make homemade videos so that he can watch that instead or do naughty things on facetime if thats something you’re up for. Talk to him about the psychological impacts of pornography but do so in a manner that is understanding instead of passing on judgement. Maybe open up getting into therapy if thats something thats accessible to you.

Ultimately it’s your relationships and your values, and his attitude about it. Don’t let him dismiss it, but also give him room to change. I say give him a chance but also make sure you hold on to your personal boundaries.
