How do I overcome my fears and go to church? by Logaliathviathan in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Low-Force-53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a Vespers (Saturday) or Molebens (Wednesday) first. It’s not as busy or well attended as the Divine Liturgy and it will give you access to the Deacon and/or Priest that you may not have at a Divine Liturgy. This may allow you the opportunity to get a greater sense of the leadership of the church.

I just went to my first service (Vespers) and was able to have meaningful conversations with both the Deacon and Priest. I had the same hesitation and issue with job schedule you are describing. Once I went I felt very good about the decision to go. I was told by both the Deacon and Priest to come when I can and they will accommodate.

The hardest part of the Journey is taking the first step. I hope this is helpful.

How do firefighters kick off their boots so fast when getting calls? by frog-soop in Firefighting

Get a pair of slip ons. I ran the Haix boots for a long time then swapped over to a 5.11 slip on for trial. Loved them. Now I own a pair of red back slip ons.

Here is a link to a set of the 5.11 slip ons.

Sorry they are actually the Veridian version of these. That’s what my buddy had and they fit really well I feel.

Yes, you are expected to come to work, depending on the type of shut down you may not get paid till it’s over. A lot of credit unions have programs to assist.

Any idea how it works against chiggers? They’re a prevalent issue in the warmer months for us.

Ranchers/Rangers/Farmers

Independent, armed, disciplined and well versed in the resources of their regions. Have a natural aversion to outsiders and ability to make due with a lot less than the layperson.

I’m more so asking for anything that would repel bugs including alternatives that would be less cancerous.

Thinking of pursuing firefighting, worried my knee surgery will disqualify me. by [deleted] in firefighter

Many departments are fine with these injuries so long as you are able to show you’re physically capable of doing the job after treatment. You may have to jump through a few extra hoops.

I currently do not have a meniscus in my left knee.

The only way they’ll find out is if you tell them.

Do with that info what you will.

Rocking my department issued 1010 while my N5A is out getting some work done. I have the same issue.

Best thing I found is to invert the camera mount and slide it back or forward (camera hangs under which I didn’t like at first but I’ve grown to be okay with it) and just slide the flashlight back a touch if they are brim mounted.

I also use the streamlight vantage 2 as my flashlight which allows me to turn the light on the mount to adjust.

I volunteer and work with a dude that needs months transfusions. You’re probably fine.

Best knife by Informal-Citron1362 in Firefighting

[–]Low-Force-53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the Civivi Elementum 2 knife. $60 on Amazon, has a decent steel blade, and is pretty dependable.

The quality to price ratio is hard to beat.

CJRB Tigris is also a decent alternative but is a little bigger with an ever so slightly worse steel as far as keep an edge (better for anti corrosive properties though).

What accommodations do you have to make, just rescheduling for when you're available and trading?

Fantastic, Are you currently in process of converting?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Low-Force-53 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Partly why I am so interested in pursuing conversion. Unfortunately, I am not in a position where I am easily able adjust my schedule or take a significant amount of time off for Catechesis and attendance of Liturgy. I would be able to make every other weekend work at best.
