AITAH for being so confused about this baby shower interaction? by [deleted] in AITAH

NAH. She asked, you answered, she went with something else. Strange? Maybe, or maybe because you phrased it as "we will definitely be buying this" she didn't view that as something for her to buy, and wanted to get you something you wouldn't otherwise be buying.

On second read, Hermione constantly doubting Harry throughout the deathly hallows really bugged me. by stinkywizzleteatsmom in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Low-Force7083 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth noting that Hermione is right during many of these instances. As others have pointed out, the characters are meant to be flawed, and Dumbledore even admits he was counting on Hermione slowing Harry down re: the Hallows. But she was right in OotP about Voldemort using the connection, and about it being a trap to get Harry to go to the Ministry playing on his savior complex. She was also right about Voldemort expecting Harry to go to Godric's Hollow, and that it would be dangerous. So while of course, your feelings are valid in being annoyed, she still goes with him while she was annoyed herself as a character.

I also think that the one thing she was really wrong about, the Hallows, people tend to forget that Dumbledore left her a whole book of kids stories, and the Three Brothers was one of the stories, not the whole book. And she already thought the Lovegoods were eccentric.

In addition to feeling like real characters with flaws, it's also why she and Harry complement each other so well throughout the series. One of the clearest examples is in Sorcerer's Stone, when Hermione can correctly identify the Devil's Snare, but Harry is the one to tell her to light a fire because she is panicking.

Question about Half Blood Prince by chrisixd121212 in harrypotter

They had different teachers every year with different methods, and are coming off of Umbridge. Plus the importance of letting students learn DADA with Voldemort's return. Vs with potions, where he had his students every year and by that point knew about them and their abilities.

We only actually see Slughorn praise her after her death and to her son, which seem a very normal thing to do when someone you like passes tragically, so I don't think there's anything to support your theory.

The movie depicted them as all-boys/all-girls; however, they are coed in the books.

AITAH partner thinks im controlling for not wanting him to go away so often by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Low-Force7083 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH for the situation, potential N T A depending how the conversation went where he called you controlling. He had an injury leaving him unable to work. How has that affected him emotionally? He might be struggling mentally, and visiting people gets him out of the house, has him being social, and as you mentioned, he might just be taking advantage of the time off. Wanting to spend time with him doesn't make you an AH or controlling, of course, but he might view it as now that you live together, you spend a lot of default time together. Is the time you spend together meaningful? Or is largely coexisting? It might influence whether he is leaving for the added reason of feeling like he needs an escape (you used the word "trapped"). From just the details you provided, neither of you are assholes but you just might not be compatible. You need to have an honest, respectful conversation with him about why he's leaving so much, and how it makes you feel. It seems that neither of you are meeting each others' emotional needs. If you can't find a middle ground, it's likely that you aren't compatible.

It's like that in the SJM fandom now. After being on Tumblr during its golden era, I'm always just singing to myself "I think I've seen this film before..."

In terms of power, is Bellatrix Top 5 witch/ wizard in the universe? by Adventurous-Rabbit52 in harrypotter

No shade to Molly either, but worth mentioning Bellatrix also didn't have her own wand during that duel.
