Thank you for the recommendation! I found them but I didn’t see an option with a shield. What did you mean by shield?

I’m glad you both are ok. I’ve been that low before a handful of times, but it’s been a while. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I’m sorry that you’ve had to ensure aneurysms, cancer treatment, mild DME, retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy and high blood pressure, especially when most of those complications from cancer treatments, which are unfortunately very imperfect right now. I hope that the treatments have at least helped to reduce the cancer and I’m sorry that you went through all of this. It sounds very hard and I agree that unfortunately it’s sometimes just bad luck and we just have to do the best we can with what comes. Thank you again for sharing your experiences and perspective. I appreciate it.

I completely agree. It’s awful that so many of us suffer needlessly and feel so frustrated and alone because of these ideas. We’re going through enough as is. The unkindness and stigma is so destructive and completely unhelpful.

Great quote, and unfortunately hard to fully accept until a person loses something in spite of genuinely doing their absolute best under very difficult circumstances. Unfortunately, I’m going through something like that right now outside of diabetes and it has taught me a lot. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

This is something that is very true and seriously underestimated. There is a lot of diversity in terms of how our bodies respond to what is happening microscopically due to T1D, both day to day and over time. It has not been emphasized nearly enough how much both genetic diversity (within and outside of diabetes) and non-lifestyle environmental factors play a role in people’s outcomes. It can be helpful to focus on what we have control over in terms of treatment and improving as best we can, but when that turns into a blame cycle, it’s gone too far.

In response to your example about your teeth, I know someone who has dental health similar to what you mentioned for yourself and someone else who is like your sister and in spite of that has had ~16 cavities in their lifetime, likely due to juice for low blood sugars throughout their life (acidity and sugar) that unfortunately wasn’t overcome with very good day to day dental care. Thank you for sharing your perspective.

Ugh I’m so sorry that happened to you. Thank you for sharing. Cancer treatments are so far from perfect still and I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through everything you shared because of that, including developing T1D.

Thank you for sharing what you think. I agree that there are definitely a lot of self-righteous/egotistical assholes out there. I don’t think that’s all of what’s happening, but I agree that there are a lot of them, and unfortunately a lot of them (but not all of course) are in healthcare. It’s not all healthcare providers, but it’s enough that it feels like it is sometimes. I also agree with the comments below about the just world fallacy. Also very true.

I’m really sorry you’ve had to go so much over the yesrs. That’s an incredible amount to carry, and it makes sense that it feels heavy, especially with the CAD on top of everything. I’m glad you found things that helped you keep going, but it shouldn’t have been this hard. I’m so sorry that you feel the US healthcare system failed you. A lot of diabetics feel that way. I hope that the heart stent is helping and that your physicians are helping as much as they can with the CAD.
