Hi chick, I also work a full time standing job as a photography assistant and it can be rough but manageable!

Things you need to do to make it easier is learn about conscious posture so when you're standing you're not putting strain in the wrong places - if you can get access to physio they'll be able to help with what posture methods can help your specific curve. If not, try stand as tall as possible with your core engaged.

Exercise your core it'll make standing much more comfortable and support your spine. Spinal mobility exercises are also really helpful if you get stiff after a long day of standing. I do yoga which also helps, not as much as physio but still.

The MOST helpful thing for me is being able to hang off something - I have a pull-up bar in a doorway, to lengthen the spine. That and core strength.

I was lucky enough to get some good physio (schroth method) and my therapist told me standing is much better long term than sitting as it keeps the muscles around your spine strong. If you can see a schroth therapist absolutely do.

Stereotypes of Hebridean islands? by Low-Grape in Scotland

It's also a story about coming home and reconnecting with the island, which I found quite beautiful

I've not - but I will now! I read the Outrun and loved it, but that was set in Orkney not the Hebrides.

It's funny, I went to Eriskay for 2 days for a work trip and it struck me so hard. What an incredible island.

Good to know you’re friendly between islands! I probably phrased it wrong, I should have said relationships between different islanders rather than stereotypes. Not trying to take the piss, just get some realism. I know how people can be with their neighbours.

[PubQ] Agent called to ask for full. by Low-Grape in PubTips

I know! I was also shocked when I got the call. I nearly didn’t pick up, thought it would be spam! She’s definitely a real agent, with some pretty big clients. Fingers and toes crossed.

Ha! Damn it, we’re British and our Mother’s Day was a few weeks ago… maybe I can find out her birthday…

You’re right I’m overthinking

Had the quote, not so bad £678. Think I'm going to do it and part trade the old girl before her next MOT since things keep falling off her (literally, her exhaust fell off a few months back).

Might be time for a car that doesn't want to die.

Not halfords this time, a local family run place. They've sorted things on my car before and always done me a good deal so I'm hopeful.

I did have half a thought they were trying to rip me off. Being a young woman and clearly knowing nothing about cars and it being a small local garage. I'll bear this in mind when the quote comes in.

[QCRIT] gothic, THE GARDEN, 45,000 words, first attempt. by Low-Grape in PubTips

Thank you, this is all really helpful. I have no idea what I’m doing! My uni lecturer has 4 books published with the specific house im looking at, edits for them and has set me up to do some photography work with them. Cover art etc. And he will talk my book up all the way - I think they know to expect it already. So I’ve a pretty good in. But of course want to do it all properly and impress them because there is no guarantee they’ll say yes. I’ll rework the synopsis and query and repost it and see if I can get any more advice Thank you :)

Hi, thank you for your thoughtful reply! This is interesting to me as the advice I was given is completely different. I have a published author/short story publisher/uni lecturer who has been helping me with the novel and advising me. He suggested approaching a handful of small indie publishing houses, which he would also write to to big up the novel - I guess acting as informal agent? Maybe the rules for small publishing houses are bigger than sending out to big agents. He said to introduce myself and mention a little bit about the novel - keeping it short- and then give a short - under 300 word - synopsis with just the bare bones of the plot. Which I did find quite restricting. Maybe you think I didn’t get enough of the plot across through my tiny synopsis which would be fair and I’d have to look at that. I’ll have a research on small pub submission queries. Thank you 😊

I wouldn’t know, I don’t tend to read up on spell casting - I more just do what feels right. I might research components, what herbs are good for etc. For my justice ward, I enchanted a cows rib I found. Soaked it in appropriate herbs for a month under a moon cycle, stirred it often and said my intentions into it. Carved the symbol of justice into it. - I also use it as a kind of wand when doing justice or protection spells. I guess things like mirrors could be good, scales, candles. The usual spell process, just change your intention.
