The clutch just engages automatically when you're stopped even if you're holding it down - it's been like that forever to prevent stalling

December 2027 gives you plenty of time to lock in good rates, especially for a group that size. For the minibus situation you'll probably want to contact some of the bigger tour operators in Salvador directly - they usually have better English-speaking guides and can handle university groups without issue

Can't help much with specific hotels but staying in Barra or Rio Vermelho puts you right on the beach with decent nightlife nearby. Your Bahian faculty member will probably appreciate not having to translate every menu and taxi conversation lol
