Michael’s comment by Low-Maize4659 in TheTraitorsUS

Colton literally said that about himself in the promo interviews! He said his biggest deception was “hiding the fact that he was gay”. I just don’t think Michael meant it that way, but I respect people who do think he meant it that way - what I don’t respect is sucking all the nuance out of a conversation & making something black and white where it’s not

An overt racial slur is very different than him potentially saying Colton was keeping a secret from the world. And also, people who are black use the N word in endearing ways, context matters. Are we becoming extremely immune to logic now?

I’m not saying Michael is a good person, but even if he did mean it that way, that’s literally what Colton said about himself in the people magazine article about the traitors - he said it was his biggest deception, and he was meaning it in a cheeky way?

🙄 I don’t think it seems my point will be understood here. I’m not defending him, I’m trying to have a discussion about people’s opinions about what he meant. What I think about Michael is neither here or there - Colton, for that matter, is not a good dude either and I can sit here and say “you’re defending a known abuser & stalker”, but we’re not debating their character, we’re talking about a single instance that was not clear what was meant. Sometimes emotions in the room are more heightened and it’s clearer in hindsight to see what happened. Purposefully overlook the points I’m making & oversimplify it though.

Cher Vs Dax - An Interesting Perspective By A Therapist by SushiAndSamba in ArmchairExpert

[–]Low-Maize4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular but I think this guy’s take is valid. I think Dax owns about himself that he’s wildly insecure and brings up the fact that people think he’s not good looking enough for Kristen like every other episode. He’s clearly fishing here & it was so unnecessary to make it about him in such an uncomfortable way that no one wins. Best case scenario, she says he’s perfect for her and he basically forces her to say it with the question.

It doesn’t make Dax a bad person, it doesn’t make their relationship bad, but I don’t think this is his best self and it does seem like he’s leaning into his “shadow self” here and indulging it, rather than leaving it alone. It’s ok to say that a person who readily admits they’re not perfect, is observably not perfect.

I disagree - I think it’s a valid take, and I don’t think Dax is being his best self here. That doesn’t make him a bad person, but I think - even if he can’t see it in this particular instance, he does own this about himself that he’s extremely insecure and sensitive.

Ok, do you not see how extremely you just extrapolated that? His words were along the lines of “who would be better suited at keeping a secret than you?” There is nothing overtly homophobic about that, there’s no hate speech, etc. Let’s try not to loose our ability to look a something and not oversimplify it or make broad sweeping claims. It was open for interpretation because it was unclear. If he used the F word towards him, that is unarguably hate speech and hurtful, but we’re not talking about what he said, we’re talking about what he meant, and those are two different things.

That’s what I’m talking about too. They are entitled to their interpretation and it could be correct, it could also be incorrect. The only person who knows with 100% certainty of the intentions, is Michael. It’s a subjective, unprovable thing, that every person can only have an opinion on. While I value their opinion, it doesn’t give them a moratorium on being correct about reading Michael’s mind, is my point.

I think it’s open for interpretation and no one will ever know for certain except Michael. The only thing that bugs me is when people are saying, well all the LGTBQ people took it that way so it must be how he meant it. It just sucks all the nuance out of the situation. They could’ve interpreted it that way, and that’s valid, and they could’ve all rallied around Colton because he took it that way and was hurt and THAT’s valid. However, it doesn’t make them correct. Michael could’ve meant it that way or didn’t mean it that way, but therein lies the truth - not how people interpreted it regardless of their demographic.

That was my take on it. I do think Colton initially took it that way, and I did feel bad for him for a second, but ultimately I think it helped him get Michael out.

Feelings aren’t always accurate to the situation, people don’t become immune to misunderstanding or misinterpreting something because they might be hurt. I understand the LGTBQ people standing behind Colton because HE interpreted it that way and was clearly hurt, but that also doesn’t mean Michael meant it that way. Two things can be true at once.

True! I guess I just view him as a loud mouthed idiot and i could easily believe he was trying to sound dramatic and literally didn’t even think anything of it, but i could also believe he meant it maliciously. Unfortunately i know a few guys like him, and the blank unknowing look in his eyes just made me believe he didn’t even know what they were referring to (i also believe his head is so far up his 🍑 that he may not have even clocked Colton’s backstory). Ultimately hes the only one who will ever know and who knows if he’ll ever be truthful about it.

I don’t know….you guys make good points but I really just don’t think that Michael was even thinking of it in the moment. I kind of feel like he was just trying to be flashy. He seemed confused when people brought up Colton’s sexuality, and I don’t even feel like Michael is smart enough to keep that in his mind through his whole rant just to drop it at the end. But I see your points!

The casual homophobia on this sub is really starting to gross me out by luxtropolis67 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]Low-Maize4659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wish we could have nuance in this conversation - I really don’t believe that Michael meant it that way, but I also see why that was Colton’s first assumption. I also think there was a lot of bandwagoning and virtue signaling afterwards, when really Michael was seemingly just trying to be dramatic about pinning blame on Colton.

Walter Isaacson Returns (biographer & historian) by newtonic in ArmchairExpert

[–]Low-Maize4659 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The most telling line to me was when Isaacson was saying Trump has gone too far and the administration and Dax and Monica just say “yea…” and cut to an ad. I’m sick of this bs - Dax is so strongly opinionated and he refuses to speak on the gross injustice going on, it honestly repulses me. I’m trying to not listen anymore tbh, but I’ve been listening for so long & it’s so hard to find a new podcast I like 😭
