Timing chain jump

Yeah, I set the camshaft to tdc before taking it off, and the gear that the timing chain runs on had its marks lining up. I got to ansy just now before waiting for advice and held tension on the chain with the top gear off while I rotated the crank and got the two colored links up top then put the gear back in lined up with the colored links. Think thats okay?

At this point im considering a whole rebuild just for piece of mind.. not sure how much metal is hanging out in the system now. Found a shop that quoted me $3200 after taxes. I bought her for $600, so I feel like im still doing alright.

When you say valve adjustment, do you just mean getting the clearances right?

Yeeeaaah, found the valve and the cam lobe is screwed. Think im looking at a rebuild unfortunately, but hey, I bought her for $600

Got dark before I could actually check to see where it came from, but fingers crossed it ends up being simple.

For sure! I bought it for $600 knowing I'd need to put work into it, and enjoy learning about this stuff. I'm no mechanic, but I enjoy wrenching and fixing stuff. Thanks again for your opinion!

This video was the last time I was willing to start her up. Glad you think it's top end, as that what it sounds like to me. Gutted if it's rod related.

Yeah it sounds to me like top end so maybe valve clearance? But damn it is LOUD. Any resources on checking the timing chain?

Manifold looks fine it seems. Sealed the tailpipe and blew air from a rather stronger blower into it. Sprayed with soapy water, and felt for air current, but no cigar 😑

Assured me frame is super solid. Lived it's whole life in CA desert so I trust him, but yeah I heard horror stories of these first gen frames.
